Watched by a relatively large number of people Broomhill SC overcame a very talented and determined HutchIson Vale to book their place in the quarter final of the under fourteen Scottish Cup.
In what was a very entertaining match with some high quality football on show the early stages were pretty even as both sides sized each other up.
As the first half wore on Broomhill started to create chances as their midfield duo took control of the middle of the park and the opening goal soon came following some fine link up play between the two with McCarthy finishing low into the bottom corner, 1-0 to Broomhill.
Boosted by the goal Broomhill continued to dominate and were denied a second by some fine goal keeping and determined defending.
Half Time : Broomhill SC 1-0 Hutchison Vale
A re-energised Hutchison Vale emerged in the second half and they dominated the early exchanges as they pushed for an equaliser, an extra man in the middle of the park reduced the influence of Broomhill's midfield, although chances were now being created at both ends with both goalkeepers making some smart saves.
Broomhill scored from a magnificent free kick mid way through the half to take a 2-0 lead into the last quarter.
With just fifteen minutes left Hutchison Vale pulled one back with a fantastic strike into the top corner from outside the box.
The game lost some of its composure as the away team pushed hard for an equaliser and Broomhill made some great defensive challenges as the game went into injury time.
After a spate of injuries it was no surprise when the referee played 5 minutes of added time but Broomhill hung on to claim a hard earned victory.
There was much to admire in the football played by both teams and given the occasion the match was played in a competitive but fair manner from start to finish.
