The game got underway with Glenvale pressing Spartans deep in their own half.
After just two minutes the first chance was to come, Declan Curran of Glenvale was charging in on the Spartans box when he was fouled, earning his side a free kick in a dangerous area. He stepped up, but unfortunately his effort went high and over the cross bar.
Six minutes in a the dangerous number Curran played a superb through ball splitting the Spartans defence to Andrew Mccoll who showed great skill on the by line to beat his man and square the ball across the box, but there was no one waiting in the danger area to tap the ball in.
On nine minutes Glenvale got a bit of a scare as a cross fired in from the Spartans left mid was miss kicked forcing his keeper to save the ball with his chest, he took no risks with picking the ball up in case it was judged to be a pass back and cleared the danger.
Spartans thought they had went ahead after number Christopher Pearson played the ball to Daniel Troup who played an excellent pass through to Robbie Walker who finished expertly, giving the home keeper no chance, but the referee deemed that he was offside and the scoreline stayed 0-0.
Right after this, Glenvale went up the other end of the park, where the Andrew Mccoll beat his marker twice and played in Sean Borland who was waiting just outside the box, but he miss-hit his shot and the Spartans goalkeeper, Harry Stone gathered easily.
The deadlock was to be broken on the nineteen minute mark when the energetic Andrew Mccoll played the ball back across the Spartans box to Andrew Curran who was waiting just outside the six yard box, he smashed his shot, low to the keepers right giving him no chance, much to the delight of the home support.
Spartans were not allowing their heads to drop after going a goal down and seeked to get themselves back level.
On the the twenty seven minute mark, Kyle Dempster of Spartans fired in a great cross to the waiting Robbie Walker who's header was steered wide of the target.
Glenvale almost found themselves two goals ahead when confusion between the Spartans keeper and centre half from a cross ball saw the ball drop to Gregor Mcfadzean of Glenvale who hit an excellent shot only for the retreating Kieran Moyles of Spartans to header the ball over the bar, keeping the score at 1-0.
Spartans will be greatful for this excellent defending from Moyles, especially when only minutes later their side was right back in the game, after a long ball over the Glenvale defence saw the pacey Dempster slot past the on rushing Glenvale goalkeeper.
It would appear that the two sides were going to go in even at the break, however Glenvale once again found themselves ahead after a miss kicked clearence from the Spartans keeper unfortunately fell the feet of the Curran, who made no mistake in making sure his shot landed in the back of the Spartans net.
