A tight match would eventually be settled from the spot after the teams teams could not be separated after extra time with Glasgow City finally seeing off their spirited opponents to lift the cup.
Glasgow City and Celtic need no introduction and the two giants of the girls' game sat in the top two places of the Christie Murray League ahead of the final.
Both sides started brightly and there were plenty of chances at either end during the first period, an early effort by Katie Rice flew high and wide before Brogan Hay had a well struck free kick saved by  Keira Gibson in the Celtic goal as Glasgow applied pressure from the outset whilst Abby Callaghan was controlling the midfield for the hoops as she looked to find the runs of Kaela McDonald and Jamie Lee Napier.
Hay would try her luck from distance again soon after as she sent another free kick from distance arcing goalwards but it was fraction too high and her next attempt from a similar position was well held as she demonstrated her set piece proficiency.
The best chance of the match would occur soon after in contentious circumstance as Nicole Cairney was sent clean through on goal by the Celtic midlfield and was able to reach the ball just ahead of Carys Hopkins who was adjudged to have taken the player but not the ball as the referee pointed to the spot. Emma Donnelly stepped up to take the kick but her shot was a perfect height to be saved and Hopkins did just that to redeem herself with the stop.

The second half would mirror the first in being short on chances but high on intensity as the teams struggled to assert their authority, a wild effort by Napier was the best Celtic could manage at the outset whilst a mistimed volley by Melissa McDonald was Glasgows answer as the goalkeepers were rarely troubled.
Both sides wrestled for possession as they cancelled each other out all over the park. Midfielders fiercely challenged for every ball and although both teams tried to get the ball down and play, they were struggling to slice open the rock solid defences at either end of the pitch.
Cairney then found herself one on one with Hopkins again but this time the goalkeeper timed her run much better and closed down the striker to only concede a corner, Callaghan would have the next attempt before Hannah Fulton played in Ciara Bonner late on but her shot was blocked and the hoops had failed to break the deadlock in normal time as we moved into extra time.

Extra time would only further show how evenly match the sides were and the few chances that were created troubled neither goalkeeper leaving penalties to decide the destination of the cup.

Hopkins yet again showed her class as she moved well on the line making sure that Celtic could only manage one success from their first four kicks. Her team mates showed greater accuracy to slot home three of theirs and send the home fans wild. Murron Cunningham struck the clinching kick, before wheeling away to celebrate with her team-mates.

Commiserations to Celtic who had their chances but the day belonged to Glasgow City who proved deserving winners on the day.

Abby Callaghan was a class act all over the park and was at the heart of everything good Celtic created.
Without doubt Hopkins stands head and shoulders above her team mates with one of the finest displays of goalkeeping in recent memory.
