Having been knocked out of the Goldengoals cup by Tower Hearts at the semi-final stage just two weeks ago, Arthurlie 21s returned to Shettleston on Thursday evening to face the same opposition; this time in the semi-finals of the West of Scotland Cup.

Learning from this earlier defeat, Arthurlie’s coaches sprung a tactical surprise on their Tower Hearts counterparts, switching the formation of their team to play a man-marking role on Tower Hearts’ dangerous strikers- Graham Boyd and Jamie Boyle. A tightly contested first-half with relatively few clear cut chances; it did not take long for this to change completely in the second half.

Half Time: Tower Hearts 0-5 Arthurlie

Five minutes into the second half an in-swinging corner from the left boot of Shaun Gallagher somehow managed to find its way directly into the back of the net to give Arthurlie a 0-1 lead. This lead was doubled shortly after when Ryan Coll curled an effort in from 20 yards. Archie McNicol then put the away side into euphoria following a great turn of pace past the Tower defence and a well-place lob over the onrushing goalkeeper.

At 0-3 down, Tower switched to three at the back in an attempt to bring themselves back into the match but with 20 minutes left on the clock, it was Anton Moy who furthered Arthurlie’s lead with a drive from just outside the box. Substitute Ralph Gamba added the finishing touches to Arthurlie’s best performance of the season when he made it five with only a few minutes left on the clock.

Tower Hearts will be disappointed by the score and their performance on the night- however following a great season- they have earned a great opportunity of winning the 21s West Premier League aswell as having the Goldengoals cup final to look forward to. Good Luck to both teams in their respective finals!
