EKFC Gold Under-19's were edged out in a five-goal thriller by table-topping St Mirren at K-Park on Sunday in the Glasgow and District League.

Kilby had come back from a goal down to lead 2-1, before Saints won it late on, to claim all 3-points.

After an open and even start, the visitors went ahead after 20 minutes, courtesy of a well-placed header from an excellent wide delivery.  It only took Kilby five minutes to hit back, and it was skipper Craig Howie who found the net with a towering header from a fine Jordan Craig free-kick.

Kilby took great heart from the leveller, and pushed forward, playing some slick passing football, creating several chances before the break, but none could be converted and half-time arrived with the game all square.
Half Time: EKFC Gold 1-1 St Mirren

The second half began with both sides enjoying lots of the ball in what was a very even contest, but Kilby got their noses in front on 65 minutes, when Stephen McCulloch did well to find strike partner Ryan McEwan, who showed great composure to lift the ball over the on-rushing goalkeeper from 18-yards.

Saints hit back 5 minutes later to level, through an excellent striker from 25-yards,which left EK keeper Kean with no chance.

With the game now stretched and end-to-end, both teams pushes forward in search of a winner, with McCulloch coming agonisingly close to connecting with an excellent Troy Maxwell cross.

The visitors stuck the decisive blow 12 minutes from time, when another fine drive from distance crashed off the Kilby crossbar and the Saints striker reacted first to head home the winner from 6 yards.

Howie almost equalised for Kilby in the final minute, but his header from a Jordan Craig corner was brilliantly clawed away by the St Mirren goalkeeper to ensure his team left K-Park with all three points.

The game was a fantastic advert for the Glasgow & District League, and both sides deserve great credit for producing such a high quality contest, played in a great spirit.

Kilby will look to pick themselves up next Sunday when they continue league duty, travelling to face Port Glasgow.
