Tower Hearts
 vs
Rutherglen Glencairn

U21's Scottish Cup Rnd 3

27 October 2013

Game started with both teams testing each other out, a few of distance shots from Tower Hearts Jonnie Allan, Graham Boyd and James Boyle were dealt with by Rutherglen’s goalkeeper. The home side then made another great chance when Jamie Boyle chased a ball down the left got away from Glens centre back and played a great ball into the middle for Boyd who had made a 50 yard run to get there and he hit it just wide.

With half time looming a Darren Jones long throw was knocked into the net by Boyd to put Hearts 1-0 up just before half time.
New Tower signing Kirk Walker headed just wide before half time.

Half Time: Tower Hearts 1-0 Rutherglen Glencairn

Into the second half and the game turned on its head in a five minute spell when Rutherglen broke down the the right and a shot crashed in at the far post to make it 1-1. The away side where then awarded a penalty and Calum stepped up to make it 2-1. Rutherglen then had a spell where if they had scored again it was all over, but a save from Daryll Jones kept us in the game.

Tower Hearts were back in the game and putting pressure on when a ball in was bouncing about the box cleared off the line broke to Thomas McLeery who toe-poked it home to make it 2-2 with 17 minutes left.

A draw was looking on the cards, with Glens breaking well and us pressurising them a ball over the top was chased down by McLeery and the centre back lost possession and Thomas scored again with a deft clip over the keeper to make it 3-2 within 3 minutes it was wrapped up as the Hearts broke into the box again and Boyd scored to make it 4-2. A great cup tie both teams deserve full credit for this game.
