Gartcairn defeated Barrhead in a West of Scotland Premier Division league match which saw all three goals in the game come in the last 15 minutes. Gartcairn opened the scoring through Ciaran Reilly before Barrhead levelled from the penalty spot through Aaron Boyle, however, the equaliser was cancelled out as Gartcairn got a penalty of their own, converted by Josh Moore.

The game started with both teams looking to play the ball out from the back and the first chance fell to Barrhead. Connor McCabe picked up possession on the halfway line and floated a ball out to Aaron Boyle on the right-hand side, who controlled it and carried the ball across the edge of the box and slipped the ball into the path of Liam McLaughlin who went down in the area but the referee waved away penalty claims.

Gartcairn's first chance of the game came when Jordan Moore dispossessed Aaron Boyle in the middle of the park and the striker raced through on goal but his effort was well saved by Stuart Collins in the Barrhead goal.

Both teams were guilty of being careless in possession at times and in particular from free kicks which were not used to good effect in the first half.

Another chance for Gartcairn came from a set-piece when a corner taken by Luke Kelly found Jordan Moore whose great header was kept out by Collins who got down to his right to push the effort away.

Barrhead threatened the Gartcairn goal just before half time. Good work down the left-hand side by Jason Andrew who played the ball to Philip Lee whose cross was controlled and held up by Andrew Stewart in the box who then laid the ball to the edge of the box and Liam McLaughlin struck a first time effort which was palmed away by Scott Matthews.

The second half started with both sides struggling to create clear cut chances. Barrhead were the first to come close when Ryan Wallace switched play over to Philip Lee who jinked past his marker and ran into the box but put his effort wide of goal.

The first clear chance of the second half came for Barrhead. A Gartcairn corner came all the way through to Jordan Moore whose attempt to put the ball back into the area was intercepted by Boyle, allowing him to start a counter-attack for Barrhead. He surged over the halfway line carrying the ball to the edge of the box and playing a pass to Liam McLaughlin in the area, whose shot at goal was saved by Scott Matthews and the rebound fell to Aaron Boyle, who saw his effort headed off the line by Keir Turnbull.

Gartcairn then fashioned their first chance of the second half. Adam Watt was allowed to carry the ball from defence past the halfway line before playing the ball out to Daniel Johnstone who curled an excellent ball behind the Barrhead defence onto the head of Josh Moore whose header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Collins.

Both sides were probing and looking for the opening goal.

With 14 minutes to go in the game, the deadlock was broken by Gartcairn. Daniel Johnstone did very well to dispossess Kyle Harte 30 yards from the Barrhead goal and put the ball out to Luke Kelly on the left who found substitute Ciaran Reilly in space on the edge of the box, he turned and curled the ball into Stuart Collins' bottom left corner.

Barrhead were then given the opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot on 86 minutes. Good work from Ryan Wallace in the middle of the park as he kept possession from a few Gartcairn players and played a through ball to Gary McFall who attempted to round Gartcairn keeper Matthews and was brought down in the box, penalty given. Aaron Boyle stepped up to and sent Matthews the wrong way, levelling the match.

But there was to be one last action in the match. With two minutes left, Gartcairn were awarded a penalty of their own. Luke Kelly collected the ball on the left hand side and drove into the Barrhead box and was tackled by Ross McQuilter, the referee pointed to the spot, to the dismay of the Barrhead players. Josh Moore stepped up and coolly slotted the penalty into the corner, winning the game for Gartcairn.

The game could've went either way with both teams having chances over the course of the game, but it was Gartcairn who took all three points.

Daniel Johnstone - Very strong in the centre of midfield for Gartcairn. Won lots of tackles in great areas and caused Barrhead problems when he was on the ball.
Stuart Collins - The Barrhead keeper kept his side in the game with a number of fantastic saves. Unlucky to be on the losing side.

Ciaran Reilly's goal, it was his first impact after coming on as a sub on 75 minutes and it started the frantic ending to the game.
The passage of play that resulted in the penalty. Great pass from Wallace into McFall who was brought down in the box.
