Top class football in EDC schools

Written by

The East Dunbartonshire Schools football season concluded this month after a series of exciting cup finals at Auchenhowie and Lennoxtown.

The U18s Final was a close encounter between Clydebank High and League champions Bearsden Academy. Clydebank took the lead through Lewis Jamieson around the 10 minute mark and although Bearsden applied persistent pressure, hitting the bar and the post, they were unable to find a way past Clydebank ‘keeper George Elliot, who was in superb form. In the end it was a deserved triumph for the Clydebank boys who had worked tirelessly throughout.

Meanwhile the EDC Leagues proved extremely competitive with four different schools winning at the various age groups. Special mentions are due to Bishopbriggs U14s and Boclair U15s who both completed league and cup doubles.

Steven MacDonald, teacher in charge of senior champions Bearsden, commented:

“For a number of years now the U18s competition has been played to a very impressive standard and a lot of the matches could have gone either way. It opens the league up for a number of teams to have a chance of coming out on top.

“Our boys have loved their matches in the EDC League, especially those against local rivals where they are friendly with a number of their opponents out with the school environment.

“They are delighted to have gained some success and celebrated lifting the trophy at a private presentation night in front of their parents.

“A real highlight for us was in the first game when our right winger, Jack Jamison, made a rare start in a central forward position and scored a hat-trick in a 5-3 local derby victory against Boclair.”

Fixtures secretary Will Walker added:

"This was another great EDC season, with excellent participation levels in both the boys and girls competitions.  We are grateful to our sponsors SpecSavers Kirkintilloch for their invaluable support and also to Rangers and Celtic for hosting our finals."
