2nd and 6th in the league met in the first round of the Archie Sharkie Memorial Cup at Toryglen Football centre on Saturday in what would prove to be an enthralling encounter.
The away team started off the better with three consecutive corners but Knightswood managed to stay strong and survived.
Knightswood slowly began to dominate the game and took the lead after only six minutes. A defensive mix-up from the away side resulted in Dyral McMillian having the simple task of tapping into the back of the net.
The home team were the better side, and Daniel Fiado was impressing early on with his skill and dribbling ability to beat the Arthurlie defence several times.
Although Knightswood were on top, it was a defensive lapse that allowed Arthurlie to equalise. Some slack defending allowed Connor Black to score with Kyle Gray in goal left helpless after 15 minutes.
Black almost doubled his tally for the day only 5 minutes later with a great strike from 20 yards that needed a good save from Gray.
Knightswood regained the lead after 21 minutes. This was a brilliant goal that started with some fantastic work on the right hand side from Fiado to get by his man, and he delivered a great ball in for Ben Jenkins who finished smartly.
Despite losing a goal so soon after drawing level, the away team were more than holding their own and were creating chances it what was an exciting game.
The away team managed to grab a deserved equaliser after 35 minutes, with Laurence Jeffrey getting his name on the score sheet. Knightswood were adamant that there was a handball in the build up but the referee was having none of it. They switched off and Jeffrey was able to sneak in to finish over the goalkeeper and make it 2-2.
Arthurlie could have taken the lead just before halftime if it wasn't for a wonderful goal saving tackle from Steven Irvine, as 3 opposing players were closing in on goal.

This proved to be even more crucial as Knightswood took the lead for a third time just before halftime as Scott Simpson was able to run clean through on goal. and he seemed like he had all the time in world to calmly finish past the goalkeeper to make it 3-2 at the break.

The second half started slowly with both teams struggling to get into a rhythm in difficult conditions.
McMillian had the first real chance for the home team but was wasteful as he shot wide, and this would prove to be costly as only minute later Anthony Conroy when through on goal and slotted past the keeper to equalise for the third time and make it 3-3.
The game continued to be end to end with both teams chasing a winner with half an hour to go to get through to the second round of the cup.
Marc McCran gave Knightswood the lead for a fourth time in the match with a wonderful finish. The ball broke to him at the edge of the box and he curled a wonderful left footed strike into the corner which left the goalkeeper with no chance.
Arthurlie were struggling to find what would be their fourth equaliser of the afternoon as the Knightswood defence stayed strong and they also looked dangerous on the counter attack.
As the away side pushed players forward they left gaps at the back and Knightswood punished. McCran delivered a ball into the box and Allan Kelly finished from a tight angle to give the home team their first two goal cushion of the game and one which would prove to be enough for the home side to advance to the next round.
Knightswood were the better side on the day and deserved to go through to the second round, but Arthurlie can be proud of their spirited performance.
