A hat-trick from Matthew Magowan help Giffnock to ease into the next round of the Scottish cup after a one-sided victory over Westerton.

A brace from Harry Martin and goals from, Lewis Taylor, Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Gebreyes, Max Bannerman, Aaron McGillivray and Jed Lover pushed Westerton aside in the cup.

The match started with Giffnock on the front foot and Bannerman was causing the Westerton defence all sorts of problems down the right-hand side of the park and the first real chance of the game came from that side. When Bannerman whipped a ball into Love but he struggled to get onto the end of it.

Not too long after McGillivray got the ball on the edge of the box he went to curl it into the top corner but he was unable to generate the power needed so the keeper there to catch it.

Giffnock could’ve and should’ve taken the lead when Euan Inglis had some great footwork and took it to the byline cut it back into the middle of the 18-yard box to Love but his shot was blocked on the line then subsequently cleared.

But they did, deservedly, take the lead through Taylor. Again, it came from Inglis who went down the line with some tricky footwork crosses it in and Taylor had enough time to take a touch and slot it home with his left foot.

Three minutes later it was 2-0 and it came from a corner. A ball whipped in from Banner man to the back post and it was tapped in by Gebreyes, and at this point it looked like it was going to turn into a cricket score.

Then came the best goal of the game it was well so worked. A long pass from Bannerman to Connor McCrea who touched it down to Magowan who finished well into the roof of the net.

Then there was a bizarre moment in the game came as Bannerman got his goal that was deserved but in weird circumstances. As it looked like he took the ball too far but he got to the byline and crossed the ball but it rolled along the line it went to the keeper but he fumbled the ball into the net.

The next goal came 37 seconds into the second half and Magowan finished extremely after great football throughout the team.

Westerton then had a chance for a consolation when Ben Conduit went on a surging run through the heart of the defence but his finish lacked quality and it was straight at the keeper.

They were made to pay as Giffnock didn’t hold back in their attacks as Magowan got his hat trick after a superb finish after a surging run down the left-hand side and hammered it into the top corner.

There was no signs of Giffnock taking their foot off the gas as McGillivray got his goal, a cut back from Bannerman and McGillivray slid it under the keeper from round about the penalty spot.

Still there was no holding back from Giffnock it was so easy for McGowan to get down the line and put the ball into the corridor of uncertainty to Love who just tapped it from 2 yards out.

Westerton then could have got a consolation after Conduit took 3 players out the game with a roulette and his shot was well tipped round the post.

Giffnock never looked like they were going to take the foot off the gas and they kept going for more and that was proven when Taylor poked the ball home after goo play from the midfield.

Now the final goal of the game after Taylor cut inside and then he slipped it under the keeper to really wrap the game up.

Matthew Magowan What else can you say. The boy scored a hat trick and also his general hold up play was exception, the way he was able to hold up the ball and bring men into play was wonderfu.l
Ben Conduit He was the only really bright spark in that team. He was trying to bring other players into the game but it was incredibly difficult as he was up against a very good Giffnock backline. But everytime he got the ball he looked like he was going to do someting special.

The second goal was outstanding. The way that Mccrea took a death touch down to Magowan and it was extremely well finished into the roof of the net
Conduit took three men out of the game with an exceptional roulette but even though it didn't end with the ball in the net, it was a great bit of skill and it helps that the team has a player with taht amount of confidence.

I think that this game was always going to end with a Giffnock win but tht is taking nothing away from what was an extremely professional performance. Also they looked like they were more up for it than Westerton, the way that they pressed high up the park was exceptional.
The only real bright spark for the team was Ben Conduit who was exceptional given the circumstances and the team he was playing against. But now they are out of the cup they rae able to focus on the league and finishing as high as possible
