In the first round of the SYFA West Region Cup, Giffnock SC White, who sit in sixth place in the Paisley Johnstone & District League Division 3, met Pollok United SA who are 2 places off bottom spot in Division 2.
The deadlock was broken very early on after a mix up at the back between Giffnock's defender and goalkeeper allowed Pollok's number 11 Buckley to roll the ball into an empty net. Immediately after Buckley was involved again this time running down the wing then pulling it back to McCrory who stepped inside the box and powered a shot into the top left corner leaving Gordon with no chance of getting near it.
Giffnock came close to responding with McCormack nearly taking advantage of the defenders slip after Wilson played a great through ball but the number 16 could only find the wrong side of the post. Soon after though Buckley was involved again this time playing the ball in behind to find Gillion whose shot from a tight angle did not trouble gordon in the Giffnock goal.
McCormack was again played through by a lovley pass from just inside his teams half, he then dribbled through and got the better of the defender but was quite fortunate the Pollok goalkeeper could not keep hold of the ball, the number 16 then took his shot from just in front of the six yard box and even though the Pollok defender got to it he could not stop McCormack from making it 2-1 before half time.

The first action of the Second half started with Greig hitting a powerful left footed strike from the right hand side of the box which hit off his own player Davidson then fell to number 10's feet whos shot came back to Davidson but neither player could put the ball in the back of the net.
Gillion was then played through down the right hand side and tried a shot from a tight angle again which could only find the side netting of Gordons near post.
Giffnock's number 15 Grieve then won the ball back just inside the oppositions half and played it up to Jack who raced away from the Pollok defenders who were appealing for offside against the number 19, and he then squared it to Verschveren, whose strike came back of the post. However, luckily for Giffnock, Makeham was there to fire in the rebound to make it 2-2 and send the game to penalties.

Pollok went first and up stepped Mersey with a cool and composed finish to the keeper's left hand side. Ramage was next for Giffnock and he put his penalty wide of the right post to make it 1-0 to pollock after the first round of penalties.

Greig then went up for Pollock and went to the same side as his teammate Mersey which resulted in the same outcome 2-0 Pollock. Zanfurlan then stepped up for Giffnock and placed his penalty in the top left corner to make it 2-1.

McCrory then stepped up for Pollok but put his penalty well wide to give Giffnock a chance to go level. McCormack was up next for Giffnock with the chance to put his team level. However, he could not repeat his heroics from the match, as his effort was saved.

Davidson was up next and calmly rolled his penaly into the bottom right corner to make it 3-1 to Pollok which meant Giffnock had to score to stay in the tie. Jack was up to take for Giffnock and the keeper was never going to save his quality strike into the bottom left corner.

Buckley had the pressure of having to score to seal the victory but the pressure had clearly not got to him as he left the keeper rooted to the spot and slotted a lovely penalty into the bottom left corner to give his team a 4-2 win on penalties.

From Giffnock I'd pick McCormack as my man of the match as he seemed to always find space or be in the right place at the right time, which resulted in his crucial goal.
From Pollok it has to be Buckley for me. He showed great vision to find players with some lovely passing on numerous occasions and got a goal to top it off. Top performance from Pollok's number 11.

Giffnock's second goal was good play from the whole team with Grieve winning it back well in the middle of the park then Jack running into the opposition box and picking out Verschveren who was unlucky to see his shot hit back off the post but Makeham fired in the rebound anyway to cap off a great team goal.
Pollock's second goal was a great well worked goal with Buckley running down the wing then laying off McCrory who fired a fantastic shot in the top left corner leaving the keeper with no chance.
