A second-half goal from Harmony Row player Darren Torvit prevented an historic win for Barrhead YFC, who were close to getting their first win against this Harmony Row team, before being scuppered and having to go away with a 2-2 draw.

Barrhead got off to a quick start, with striker Kieran Brophy forcing Harmony Row to react quickly to his strike just 3 minutes into the game. It would be the home team, however, that would create the first goal – a delightful cross finding its way to the head of Paul Danks, who headed the ball in to the back of the net for the hosts.

Barrhead fought back, creating the large majority of the chances before Brophy found himself past the opposition defence in the 20th minute, having the composure to slot the ball past the keeper for the equaliser.

Barrhead’s second goal, scored just 5 minutes from half-time, was a joy to behold. After a delightful first touch from midfielder Kristopher Lawson, the number 25 scooped a pass above the Harmony Row defence to the striker Brophy, who then proceeded to lob the ball over the unsuspecting goalkeeper for the goal. It was an audacious finish which fired the away team in to the lead.

After the interval Barrhead looked more dangerous to score another, but Harmony Row were still a threat, thanks mainly to their set-piece wizard Adam Telford. The midfielder created the bulk of his teams scoring opportunities with his swift and precise deliveries into the box.

It was ironic then that Harmony Row’s equaliser would end up coming from a Barrhead corner. After successfully clearing the danger, Harmony Row’s Darren Torvit picked up the ball from deep and launched a swift counter-attack down the wing, sprinting past the opposition defence before finishing for the equaliser, capping a marvellous individual effort.

From then on the game became more frantic, the play moving from end to end as both teams chased for that winning goal. Barrhead’s Brophy worked hard down the right wing to set up a glorious chance for his teammate Thomas Macrae, but the pressure of the Harmony defence meant he was unable to capitalise.

After much passion from both sides, the match ended in a well-earned draw, leaving Harmony second in the table, with Barrhead behind them in 4th.

Adam Telford - The midfielder was responsible for the home side's best chances of the game, whipping in free kick after free kick and corner after corner to meet the heads of his teammates. He went close himself 10 minutes from the end of the first half with a formidable shot from distance, as well as with a free that landed just inches away from the post. Telford made sure his team constantly threatened
Kieran Brophy - The striker put in a performance which belied his youth, scoring two great goals and supplying excellent passes for his teammates. As one spectator put it after the game, Brophy is in possession of two good feet and plays with his head up, thus bringing vision and awareness to his game, making him a nightmare for any opposition defence.
