Hutchison Vale went into this match chasing their third Trans World Soccer Scottish Youth FA Cup success in a row but faced a Rossvale FC Thistle side who had been free-scoring themselves in the rounds leading up to the final.
The opening exchanges were typical of a cup final being nervy in nature with both teams attempting to figure each other out.
However it was Hutchison who began to take control with prolonged periods of possession and a high standard of passing.
Ethan Hamilton was central to any attacking movement from Hutchison; however the team in black and yellow were struggling to create any clear cut opportunities.
Rossvale’s attacks at this stage were limited to two long throws and a corner which Hutchison struggled to but eventually cleared.
Rossvale’s Paul King picked up the ball at the half way line, who then played it to Cammy Ralston who turned his man and delivered a quality cross to the back post from the right hand side, but Jack Crumlish was leaning back and could only manage to direct the ball over the Hutchison Vale crossbar.
It seemed the game was still a quiet affair, but the influential Ethan Hamilton picked up the ball and hit an unbelievable half volley from 25 yards past Graeme Milne in the Rossvale goal to make it 1-0 to Hutchison Vale.
Rossvale were also struggling to cope with Kieran Young in the central midfield position; his pace and low centre of gravity were causing problems.
Hutchison Vale were brimming with confidence after Hamilton’s goal and were looking comfortable on the ball.
Fraser Kennedy came into the fray for Rossvale to try and sure up the defence in the right back position.
Ethan Hamilton then took a sore one on his nose and had to receive treatment as Rossvale won a corner.
It was a good out-swinging ball by Paul King but Daniel Crawley couldn’t direct his header on goal as it looped over the bar. Again Rossvale looked their most threatening from set-pieces.
Rossvale eventually turned that set piece threat into a goal, as a free-kick from the left hand side was met by the head of substitute Fraser Kennedy who found himself unmarked in the box and who directed it past Gibb in the Hutchison Vale goal.
Hutchison nearly responded immediately as Cameron Fraser ran through the Rossvale defence but saw his shot well saved by Milne.
However Rossvale were growing into this game and were asking questions of the back four and goalkeeper of Vale, as Paul King from two yards out blasted it over from an impressive diagonal cross.
The nerves had dissipated at this point and the game was end to end with both teams going all-out attack.
From 40 yards out Kieran Young tried a spectacular effort but saw it just go over the bar.

The second half started where the first ended, with both teams playing attractive attacking football.
A brilliant ball from Adam Martin found Paul King in the box, who jinked past one defender to get on his stronger foot, however he was denied by Gibb who tipped the ball round the post. Rossvale came even closer a minute later after a ball was slipped to the back post but Byron Gibb once again got his body in the way to put it out for a corner.
Some neat footwork from substitute Ryan Fox took him away from two Rossvale defenders before he won a free-kick for Hutchison in a dangerous position around 30-yards from goal.  However, despite a cleverly worked free-kick, Ethan Hamilton slipped when he struck the ball and it flew wide of the right hand post.
An excellent pass from Hutchison Vale through the Rossvale defence found Ethan Hamilton but he could not find the net after a save from Milne.
Shortly after Ryan Fox hit a shot after having the ball laid off for him, but it was again parried wide by Milne in the Rossvale goal.
A last-ditch challenge by Jack Cook combined with help from his keeper Byron Gibb denied Rossvale from taking the lead, with both teammates colliding and having to receive treatment.
The match was being played at an extremely high tempo with both sides pushing for that elusive second goal.
Paul King slid the ball through in a quick attack and found Cammy Ralston in the box who forced Gibb into a smart stop that kept the sides level.
Rossvale were in ascendency at this point with more possession and were continuously attacking their Edinburgh opponents.
The ball was then cleared off the line by the Hutchison Vale defence but it landed at the feet of Paul King who could only fire the rebound over the bar after the striker was leaning back.Hutchison nearly stole it late on as a cross was deflected off a Rossvale defender but ended up in the arms of Graeme Milne, much to the relief of his team mates.

The first period of extra time started at a frantic pace as both teams chased that decisive goal to secure victory.

A brilliant long range strike from Andrew Davidson was saved by the impressive Gibb in the Hutchison goal as the West region side continued their search for a winner.

Milne showed Gibb he was just as impressive in between the sticks as an Ethan Hamilton in-swinging corner was well watched and tipped away by the Rossvale keeper.

Paul King then swung in a corner but David Dunn’s header was well saved again by Gibb after the Rossvale player couldn’t direct his header anywhere apart from straight at the goalkeeper.

Both sides showed no signs of fatigue as the frantic pace continued.

Not soon after the kick-off substitute Fraser Kennedy played it into the box and fellow substitute Craig Cassidy found himself in space inside the box and headed past a helpless Byron Gibb to give Rossvale the lead.

It looked as if Rossvale were going to defy the odds and deny Hutchison their third SYFA cup success, but a controversial corner was awarded to Vale and boy did they take advantage. After the ball pinging about in the penalty box Cal Sheridan popped up for Hutchison Vale to equalise in injury time of extra time to send the match the penalties.

Hutchison Vale were first but goalscorer Ethan Hamilton saw his soft penalty saved as Milne got low-down to his right.

Paul King was first up for Rossvale and made no mistake, stroking the ball into the right hand corner.

Hutchison were then reliant on substitute Ryan Fox to level the stakes, but the striker’s penalty was again saved by the inspired Milne who saved to his left.

Rossvale took full advantage and made it 2-0 in the shootout with Kieran Craven placing his penalty calmly down the middle.

Vale eventually converted a penalty after captain Cameron Begbie put the ball past Milne low into the bottom left hand corner.

However Rossvale showed no mercy as Jack Crumlish stepped up and sent Gibb the wrong way to make it 3-1.

Hutchison had to score to keep their fading cup hopes alive, and they did so through Kieran Young who dispatched his penalty despite the dancing Graeme Milne in goal.

Cammy Ralston stepped up and won the cup for Rossvale, squeezing his penalty underneath the body of Gibb. Rossvale players ran to their coaching staff and fans to celebrate an incredible victory, over a side who had held a strangle-hold on this competition for so long.

Byron Gibb. Honourable mention to Ethan Hamilton who tried to get attacks going throughout but for me Hutchison Vale could have been on the end of a regulation time defeat if it wasn't for some fantastic saves from the keeper.
Captain Kieran Craven lead by example. His defence repelled a previously free scoring Vale time and again, whilst he surged forward when possible, driving on his whole team.
Magic Moment
Hutchison Vale

A last-gasp equaliser from Cal Sheridan during injury time in extra time salvaged Vale from the jaws of defeat and set the match up for a grand stand finish.
When Cammy Ralston stepped and converted his all-important penalty to send Rossvale and their supports in euphoria.
