Syngenta Juveniles ran out 2-1 winners in the Trans World Soccer Scottish Youth FA Cup 14s final thanks to a brace from Alex Thomson.
On a rain-soaked surface at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium, Syngenta started the brightest and were creating chances early on. In the ninth minute Aaron McMillan had a great opportunity when he connected with Kyle Mcguire’s corner. It was a tame header though and didn’t trouble the Ayr goalie.
Five minutes later Ayr had a fantastic chance to break the deadlock when Arran Sawyer received a low cross into the area. From around six yards out he was odds on to score but somehow managed to scuff the shot straight into the grateful arms of Syngenta keeper Dean Love.
A matter of seconds later Syngenta had made them pay for the missed opportunity. A relatively routine cross into the box which the keeper should have claimed was met by Alex Thomson who headed in with ease.
Thomson was instrumental throughout the first half and could have had another before the break if not for good goalkeeping by Grady McTaggart.
Ayr then got on the scoresheet in fortuitous circumstances just before the end of the half thanks to a set piece. A corner whipped in ricocheted off the Syngenta crossbar and reached Arran Sawyer at the backpost who calmly headed in.
