Scots in BarcelonaScotland Boys Club 2003 Yellows Squad travelled to the Barcelona Football Festival in Santa Susanna at the weekend. The squad of only 8 boys - Junior Garscadden, Robbie Fraser, Ross Taylor, Reegan Aitken, Reece McLean, Ross McQueen, Lorenzo Giovanazzi, Lewis Robertson and their 2 coaches Stewart Taylor and Loudon Robertson travelled with a large group of vocal supporters.

They were participating in the Under 10’s age group alongside teams from Spain and Finland. The tournament started with the group games on Saturday which saw the boys scoring 20 goals and only conceding 4, however a defeat in the final group game to FC Racing Blanenc saw them finish in the runners up spot with the semi final to look forward to on the Sunday morning.

The semi final was against FC Martorelles who were unbeaten going into the game. The Spanish team took the lead through a direct free kick, however they were shocked as the wee Scots went on to score 5 goals in succession to win the game 5-1.

The final was against FC Racing Blanenc who had defeated them the day before so the boys knew it was going to be a tough game. They started off brilliantly and took a 2-0 lead, however 2 quick goals from the Spanish team saw the scores level, before a third goal just before half time gave the boys a well deserved 3-2 lead at the break. The second half proved to be another tough encounter however the Scots took the football to yet another level with another 2 excellent goals to give them a more comfortable 5-2 lead going into the closing minutes of the game. A late goal from the Spanish team saw the game end at 5-3 with wild celebrations to follow at the final whistle from the Scots both on and off the pitch.

The team were deservedly presented with the winner’s trophy on the Sunday evening and also managed to take home Best Player of the Tournament (Robbie Fraser) and Best Goalkeeper (Reece McLean). Therefore, 3 out of the 4 top awards came back to Scotland with Robbie just missing out on the Highest Goalscorer award.

An incredible achievement for the squad of 8 boys and a fairytale ending as the boys move on to a new chapter in the summer with their senior clubs.
