A 17th minute Ryan Tierney strike was the difference between the sides, and a little bit of revenge for Accies against the only side to take three points from them this season. The win keeps Hamilton in second place behind Celtic, with both teams now sitting on thirty four points.

St. Johnstone started on the front foot, using the wings with some effect to send crosses deep into the Accies penalty area, but without an end product. It wasn’t long before Hamilton took control and Tierney netted from a deflected free kick.

The second half was much like the first, with Accies dominating both in possession and with the chances. Hamilton weren’t able to make the most of this superiority however, squandering many a chance in front of goal.

Hamilton came alive from their slow start with a nice build up through the centre, the ball found its way to Louis Longridge who shot wide of goal. Longridge then dinked a nice ball over the top for Steven Boyd, who chipped keeper Zander Clark, but Brad McKay was able to race in and clear from the line.

Hamilton were in full flow and putting the Saints defence under quite some pressure. Eamonn Brophy was brought down on the edge of the penalty area, his resulting free kick struck the wall but Tierney was on hand to slip in from four yards, 1-0.

Moments later, Craig Thomson almost pulled one back for the Saints when he sent a shot fizzing across the wet surface and inches wide of the back post. Accies countered with a ball played wide for Boyd, he crossed to the back post for Longridge to volley wide.

St. Johnstone finished strongly, Neil Martiniuk sending a free kick deep for an unmarked Cameron Lumsden to blast over the cross bar from fifteen yards. Thomson then took control of a high ball and went on to make a good run forward, hold of challenges and shot from twenty yards, Martin saved well.

Accies were sprightly from the off, with Longridge intercepting and sending wide for Brophy, evading his marker he then shot on goal, Clark saved well. St. Johnstone then won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, Lumsden tapped inside for Liam Caddis to strike low, Martin saved.

Clark misjudged a clearance at the back, Tierney intercepted and shot, Clark saved but the rebound fell to Boyd who shot past the post from fifteen yards .Tierney then headed over the cross bar from a decent Ben Reilly cross.

St. Johnstone’s best chance came when the ball was played down the left for George Hunter, harried by Sendles-White, he cut inside and curled a shot inches wide. Hamilton responded with a ball played forward to Boyd, who cut a pass across the eighteen yard line for Ross Cunningham to send wide.

It should have been 2-0 but for a great double save from Clark. Brophy shot from twelve yards, Clark saved but the rebound went to Tierney whose shot forced another magnificent save. The ball went wide, Brophy collected and crossed back into the six yard box, but McKay was in place once again to make the clearance.

The shots kept coming from Hamilton, Brophy striking the upright with a fantastic twenty five yards shot. Brophy then sent a twenty yard shot sailing over the cross bar, before Boyd repeated from a free kick.

A twenty yard goal bound Thomson shot, took a deflection before flying safely over the cross bar. Accies made a break forward, Cunningham holding the ball and allowing Boyd, Longridge and Brophy to race forward. Longridge picked up and stormed forward, then shot wide.

Hamilton should have gone two up, the ball was played into the box for Marc Kelly who just couldn’t get a shot on goal, the ball passed to Lewis Smith who sent wide. Then one final attempt when Brophy sent a free kick wide of the back post.

Eamonn Brophy and Louis Longridge - Both players featured prominently in the Hamilton victory. Longridge especially strong making runs forward, and Brophy causing plenty of trouble for the Saints defence.
Craig Thomson - Made good runs out on wing and through centre, able to make an accurate pass, hold opponents off and some decent shots on goal.
