Glasgow Girls Football Club were the worthy winners of a £10,000 cash fund from Women’s Fund Scotland on Monday.
The club had been invited along to the awards personally thanks to their continued support of girls and women in the community. They were one of 6 organisations attending with all of them guaranteed to leave with a degree of financial backing. 5th and 6th place would be leaving with £1000, 4th would receive £3000, the two closest runner ups would earn the prize of £5000 and the winners, Glasgow Girls FC, received a massive windfall of £10,000.
Jim Strathdee, the club’s founder, told Youth Football Scotland exactly how this substantial amount of money would help the club and the community.
“It’s massive for the club. We have over 200 girls and women here and each one will feel the benefits.”
“We’re aiming to insure our team mini-bus which is already a massive expenditure. We’re also looking to start up keep fit, lifestyle and career classes for the girls at the club as well as non-members. We want to become a real community hub.”
“Girls over the age of 16 now have the option to begin coaching badges so they may get involved in other areas of the game.”
Glasgow Girls recently opened a brand new playing facility worth £85,000 and it is clear to see that this is a club on the up.

The third round draw has been made for the SFA Youth Cup. Ten second round winners were joined by twenty-one teams given a bye based on their performance in last year's competition, or the luck of the draw. Remaining in the competition are youth outfits representing all twelve SPFL Premiership Clubs, teams from eighteen of the SPFL's lower tiers and three Highland Football League teams. One second round tie remains, with Raith Rovers hosting Clyde on Sunday. Third round ties are due to be played on Sunday 20th October.

Youth Football Scotland has an opening for a new full time member of staff at the organisation, based in Edinburgh. The role consists of a 30-hour week which will combine video editing and camera operation of football games, events and news stories.Roles and responsibilities include the following:
• Recording football matches and tournaments.
• Editing and producing video highlights.
• Attending special interest events to produce video news stories.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who has the ambition to progress through the ranks of sports camera operation and video editing media industry. Attention to detail and ability to work with large volumes of video content is desired. Experience in videography is desirable, however full training is provided.

Whilst the competition officially began on 25th August, the SFA Youth Cup (Under 20's) really takes the limelight for the first time on Sunday 22nd September, with 11 second round ties. Only one tie took place at the first round stage - Edinburgh City winning away to Airdrieonians. The tie was settled on penalty kicks after a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Celtic made a brilliant passing move up the field, Shaylen Anderson then made a run into the box and smashed the ball into the top corner giving Celtic an early lead. Dunfermline didn’t let this early goal put them down though, as Sarah King replied with a long shot effort minutes later which went just over the bar. Megan Robb came close to increasing Celtics lead with a quick counter down the wing. Robb beat a player, and then struck the ball towards goal but the keeper made a superb save. Dunfermline had their best chance yet in the 13th minute. Morgan Cross was played a chipped ball through into the box, Cross controlled it well then took a low shot towards the bottom right corner of the goal but it was brilliantly stopped by the keeper. The keeper is called again to make another great save when Caitlin Greaves broke through the Celtic defence and tried to take a shot but the keeper won the ball well. The second goal of the game came in the 21st minute, Dunfermline managed to equalise when Caitlin Greaves made a fast paced dribble through the midfield and then smacked the ball into the net from just outside the box making it 1-1. Celtic nearly took the lead just before half time, Shaney McCabe beat two players on the left wing and then powered a shot towards goal but it went wide of the post. The half time whistle blew soon after and first half finished at 1-1. Both teams were evenly matched and had plenty of chances, it was hard to say who would come out on top in the second half. Dunfermline looked close to equalising in the 35th minute. Morgan Cross tapped the ball around a Celtic defender and then went through on goal. She struck the ball low but the keeper made a tremendous save and pushed the ball out. Minutes later Caitlin Greaves was close to getting a second goal for herself. Greaves was played through on goal but the keeper came out bravely and won the ball.
Celtic almost increased their lead in the 46th minute when Shaylen Anderson skilfully took the ball around two defenders. Anderson was about to shoot but Rachel Snaddon made a strong tackle and cleared the danger.
Megan Robb almost made it 3-1 when she brilliantly flicked the ball over a Dunfermline player and then volleyed the ball towards goal but it went narrowly wide of the top corner.
Dunfermline continued to keep pressing for an equaliser, but the Celtic defence were staying strong. In the dying minutes of the game Dunfermline were attacking well and it looked like they could score. Caitlin Greaves was through on goal in the 57th minute but the keeper once again made a fantastic save and kept Celtic in the lead.
The final whistle blew shortly after, and Celtic Tayside Girls were the winners. Despite Dunfermline Athletic Girls tremendous performance, Celtic Tayside Girls would be entering the semi-final of the Scottish Cup. Celtic put in a spectacular performance, creating many chances and defending well throughout the game.

August 2013 saw the sad passing away of Mwiinga Mubanga. Mwiinga was a talented footballer and popular figure in the grassoots scene, playing with Boroughmuir High School, Cavalry Park SC and Lochend YFC.
Mwiinga's team mates paid the following tribute:
"Miwinga was a fast winger that was fleet of foot but would and could play anywhere he was asked. He often starred up front and at wing back and made appearances at full back where he would never shirk a tackle.
He was always willing and eager to listen to advice and he took any criticism on the chin. He encouraged his team-mates and was truly a team player, although he did often try and beat the same player on more than one occasion!
He was always bubbly and smiling both on and off the pitch and although he will be sadly missed it was a joy and a privilege to have known him."
In Mwiinga's memory, a five a side memorial tournament will be held later in September. Scotland youngsters braced for Italian job

Scotland are set to showcase our world famous hospitality once again at the start of September as we play host to Italy in an Under-16’s friendly at Starks Park in Kirkcaldy. The state of Italian youth football has rarely been better with the current crop at this age finishing second at a Uefa development tournament in Madrid in April and the Under 17 side recently losing the European championships on penalties to Russia, bolstering their confidence ahead of the world championships in the UAE this October.
The current crop of Under 16 starlets are coached by former Rangers and Italy player, Paolo Vanoli, and have warmed up well for the contest by beating Qatar 3-0 in the first ever contest between the two sides earlier this month.
Scotland for their part are looking to put in a decent performance against a world class side in what is their last match before the Sky Sports Victory Shield tournament against England, Northern Ireland and Wales in October and November.
Their coach Scott Booth has selected a strong squad for this challenge match, the vast majority of whom currently ply their trade for Old Firm teams but a couple of the current crop ply their trade further afield and it may be the first time many of the Tartan have had the chance to run the rule over midfield prospect Joshua Laws of Fortuna Dusseldorf.
The match should prove to be a fine barometer of where both teams stand ahead of the respective challenges they both face, the Azzuri having to step into the shoes of one the world’s finest youth teams over the coming months and our own Dark Blues facing the daunting challenge of trying to halt a thirteenth straight victory for England in our home nations tournament.

Langcraigs' strips are best Barr none after competition win

A Paisley-based football team has netted a new strip to kick off its season - thanks to sponsorship from Barr Construction and Youth Football Scotland (YFS).
Langcraigs Football Club hit top of the table in the annual competition for Scottish youth football teams, A Question of Stadia, which is jointly sponsored by the construction company and the not-for-profit social enterprise.
The five day quiz, based on iconic TV programme A Question of Sport, gave teams the opportunity to pitch their wits against rival teams through well-known rounds such as Picture Board and What Happens Next?
In recognition of its triumph in the competition, Langcraigs FC was awarded a brand new set of strips for the under 13’s team as well as equipment including footballs, training poles and sports bags.
John Callander, Marketing Manager, Barr Construction, said: "Barr has long been associated with the delivery of sports and leisure facilities throughout the UK - including constructing arenas for such high profile projects as the London Olympic Games and Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
“Through our partnerships with organisations such as Youth Football Scotland we are committed to developing youth participation in sport.”
Established in 2010, Youth Football Scotland is responsible for raising awareness and supporting coaching programmes, tournaments and youth clubs throughout Scotland.
Youth Football Scotland, said: “The Question of Stadia partnership with Barr offered us an ideal opportunity to support the organisation of youth football in Scotland at a grass roots level.
“The competition really captured the imagination of football teams throughout the country, with over 150 entrants. Langcraigs FC are worthy winners and we are glad the kit will contribute towards the continued development of such a passionate set of young players.”
Having steadily grown since its launch in 1999, Langcraigs FC currently provides training to more than 180 local youngsters across 10 teams - with ages ranging from a soccer nursery of four and five year olds to an under 19’s team.
Langcraigs FC Coach, William Nicol, said: “The kids are delighted by this win and grateful to both Barr and Youth Football Scotland for this investment in our 2013/14 season.
“At Langcraigs we value ourselves as an inclusive club, who support grass roots football for all young people in the area.
“We are really excited by this upgrade to our facilities which will provide a boost not only for our under 13’s team but for the other 9 teams currently participating in the club.”

Scotland's youngsters cool ahead of Iceland test

Iceland are the latest national side to grace our fair shores and will be pitching up in Stirling ahead of a Vauxhall Under-19 International Challenge Match against our own young starlets at Stirling Albion's Forthbank Stadium on Tuesday 3rd September. Former Sunderland manager and Manchester United coach Ricky Sbragia, taking charge of the team again for the 2013-2014 season, has named a 24 man squad for this match and will be hoping to secure a favourable result for Scotland ahead of their forthcoming UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying matches which take place in October against Germany, Belarus and Latvia having finished bottom of their qualifying group for the most recent tournament.
Iceland for their part are being guided by former IBV coach Kristinn Rúnar Jónsson who has been controlling affairs at this level since 2006 and was rewarded for his stewardship last December with a two year extension to his contract. His team for their part also failed to reach the finals in Lithuania this year but have been handed what would appear to be the harder group for the next tournament in Hungary having been drawn against this years’ finalists France, Belgium and Northern Ireland as they attempt to reach the tournament proper for the first time.
Seven years ago the Dark Blues ended an amazing run of results by reaching the final in Poland where they were cruelly denied 2-1 by Spain in the final and will be hoping a positive result in Stirling will be the catalyst to a similarly successful campaign. That squad included Steven Fletcher and Graham Dorrans.
It is all change for the Scotland squad, with only Lewis Kidd (pictured, above right) and Jamie Lindsay, both Celtic, continuing from last year's group.

The AC Milan wonderkid has already been labelled the ‘Moroccan Messi’ and has been touted as a potential star for both the Azzuri national side and Milan. The forward has been getting rave reviews and this was highlighted by the €500,000 that Milan paid Reggina for the 15 year old, an extraordinary transfer fee for a player of this age,and he is definitely one to watch in the upcoming game against the Scots. MELKAMU TAUFER
The Ethiopian born Juventus midfielder has already been touted as the next Mario Balotelli, meaning that he is one that is being touted as a star of the future. This is shown through the following quote from Taufer himself showing that he holds a confidence similar to Mario Balotelli and he may have the ability to match in years to come: “It’s amazing to play in the blue shirt in front of friends and family. Since I came from Brescia to Inter I have evolved a lot. No, I’m not the new Balotelli, I am Taufer.”

Youth Football Scotland launch brand new website

After a summer of work behind the scenes, Youth Football Scotland are pleased to announce the launch of our brand new website. Since going live for the first time thirty-three months ago, in November 2010, the website has grown beyond all expectation. The task was to create a faster and more user friendly website, which showcased the most popular parts of YFS.
Here is a guided tour to what's new...
The biggest piece of feedback we received regarding the old site was 'I can't find the news I want'. Which was understandable, given our 7000+ articles and reports. The YFS News Centre is the perfect tool to combat that problem, allowing you to search for news by age group, competition, club or region. You can narrow it down using more than one of these filters too, use as many (or as few) as you like. Give it a whirl!
Regional Hubs
Another piece of feedback we received regarding the old site was 'I only want to see things happening in my region'. Bring on the regional hubs. You can check the latest news, photos, videos, Recruitment Zone adverts and find pitch locations - just for your region.
Search Engine
On the right hand side of the main menu, located near the top of every page, you can use our new and more powerful search engine. Find what you want, with minimal fuss. However, if you're looking for a news story, then use the YFS News Centre.

Yet another piece of feedback we received was that people did not know where to start when it came to our thirty category link directory. It was also impossible to keep all of the links up to date, as we can't be responsible for external sites chopping and changing. To simplify things we have created six key sections and in each we will provide a small selection of hand picked links, from organisations we have vetted and recommend.
The popular Recruitment Zone service is back and more comprehensive. The big change is the addition of browsing by age group, meaning you can filter out the irrelevant adverts straight away.
Find out who the reporters, photographers, radio and video team members are in your region, learn more about them and interact.
