YFS recently caught up with secretary, treasurer and coach of Calder Thistle FC, Gary Berfesford. As a new team this season, they have made a great start in the Central B League winning their first 4 league games and also winning their first round tie in the league cup, and Gary puts this success down to the boys in the team's fantastic attitude and hard work.
The decision to pull this team together was only made in July, after the closing date for entry to the league, but after explaining his plans to the league secretary, Gary gained his full support and was given time to organise and register the team and players with the SYFA and a place was kept open for Thistle in the league. After providing support with the necessary documentation that the club needed, Colin Campbell Sports personally handled the team's order, aswell as going along to a training session to meet the kids and coaches, show them samples of the kit and make sure each player & coach was sized up.
Gary allowed the boys to decide the teams name, design the club badge and choose their kit, electing the Nike Striker 3 set from a range of options. The team placed their kit order 3 weeks before the season was due to start. The order included 5 sponsors and a charity's logo to be printed onto the teams various home, away and training kits. Thankfully Colin Campbell Sports worked round the clock to ensure the kit was there in time for the first game: 'The boys were all desperate to have their kits in time for their first game, and considering the very challenging time scale that Colin Campbell Sports were given to pull all of this work together, they did very well to make this happen in time' said Gary.
In total, Gary has purchased; a full set of home, away and training kits aswell as mid-layers for the whole team, 4 sets of goalkeeper kit, a full set of coaches kit, rain jackets for all of the team, team branded beanie hats and Nike winter quilted jackets for the kids. Gary was extremely happy with the cost, quality and service that he and the team received from Colin Campbell Sports, saying how 'delighted he was about always kept being kept up to date with everything that was going on by his Colin Campbell Sports Account Manager.
The evening before the first game of the season the account manager contacted Gary to tell him that he was 'delighted to confirm that the kit was now ready!'. The account manager even drove from Falkirk to Glasgow to personally deliver the kit to Gary, which he and all of the team were 'extremely grateful for!'
Everyone involved with the team was so excited to see it grow from nothing to a fully kitted team in four weeks, and more importantly in time for the start of the season! "It is very unusual for teams to spring up out of nowhere so quickly, and to be able to produce kits with 5 sponsors and a brand new badge in next to no time, so for the team at Colin Campbell to have fully kitted Calder Thistle out, it has been a terrifc experience!" said Gary.

Part of a new initiative by Colin Campbell Sports, Currie Star have opened up their own club shop within the Colin Campbell Sports website and store. Now if any of their players or coaches need new training kit or strips, they can get them in the sizes they need at the click of a mouse or by popping in-store! YFS caught up with club chairman & coach of the U15 team, John Brock this week to hear what he had to say about the initiative:
'Currie Star benefit from utilising the club shop scheme online whereby parents can order their son's training kit and either collect themselves or arrange for another club member to do so when passing'
To enquire about having your own club shop at Colin Campbell Sports, please fill out the form below:
In terms of Currie Star as a football club, they don't set any targets for their players other than to go out, enjoy themselves and do the best they can. Brock was keen to stipulate that: 'If boys don’t enjoy their football at this age, 15’s, we are at risk of losing them from the sport. Our aim is to keep them engaged so they continue to discipline themselves with training and playing regularly.'
Keeping the young players engaged certainly helps when you have fantastic training and playing kit! Currie Star has used Colin Campbell Sports for many years, buying everything a top grassroots football club needs: home & away strips; player's training kit; coach's kit; tracksuits; medical bags; and balls. Brock outlined multiple reasons why they keep returning:
1) The store manager Scott looks after us well and does his best to help. The guys go above and beyond all the time and even drop the kit off at an agreed location at short notice.
2)Through the club shop scheme, our gear is now so accessible for us. Many of our parents just pop in whenever their boys need kit and the availability is fantastic. Kids grow at various rates and will require new kit at various times throughout the season. Our parents have provided great feedback with the quality of service they have enjoyed at CCS.
3) The banter!! Currie Star coaches / players and parents are always made to feel welcome when visiting the shop and they enjoy the football chat with the staff.
Brock had some final comments to make, saying that: 'Currie Star are delighted to work closely with CCS who provide a first class service and look after us very well. It is great to have such a good relationship with a supplier and to work with decent, honest people like Scott and Colin. The arrangement works well for both parties. Our parents/players/coaches are guaranteed great, friendly advice and support from the staff and CCS always keep a good stock of kit available for Currie Star'.

Similar to Youth Football Scotland, Bayside FC have been kitted out in brand new Macron gear this season courtesy of Colin Campbell Sports.
The YFS media team caught up with Bayside FC's Vice Chairman and Head of Female Section, Martin Kennedy this week to talk about Bayside's progression as a club, and their teamwear & equipment providers, Colin Campbell Sports.
Bayside Football Club have recently moved home to Pitreavie as they saw an opportunity to use the Sports Complex as their Training Hub. This arrangement would provide Bayside with an essential common location, consistent changing arrangements, containers for shared equipment, access to an office/meeting room and crucially, the ability for age groups to better interact by training alongside each other and the opportunity for sharing coaching support.
The club has has been doing well so far in 2015, with the U17 boys winning the league cup and the U13 girls completing the double, by winning the East of Scotland U13 league and the League Cup.
With great success, has came great kit! Kennedy said that 'As a club we have used many suppliers for both kit and equipment, but nothing compares to Colin Campbell Sports'. The team used Colin Campbell Sports to buy brand new Macron kits in the sky blue colour (please see below). For their away kits, they will be sure not to clash with other teams in their bright orange Macron away kits (see opposite)!. Dark blue training kits complete their Macron teamwear collection.
Not content with just teamwear, Bayside have also purchased a vast array of training equipment to allow all their players and coaches' to have the tools they need to succeed. Everything from mannequins, training goals, balls and ice packs, to water bottles and bibs has been supplied by Colin Campbell Sports at Pitreavie. Martin explains why he and his club will always be happy to keep going back to Colin Campbell Sports time and time again: 'We received one of the best customer experience our club has came across in years. Colin Campbell Sports know what they do. They even come over to our HQ in Fife to drop off our orders and have a quick catch up with how things are going at the club. Great service'.

With the qualifiers for the UEFA Women's Euro 2017 starting last week, YFS and Trans World Soccer are dedicating this week to highlight the growth of the women and girl's game. Trans World Soccer has seen a huge surge in the number of Tour requests from girls and women's clubs in the last 6 months, and this week we focus on Westdyke Community Club Girls.
The girl's enjoyed a 4 day Experience with Trans World Soccer last season, visiting Manchester, Sunderland and Newcastle at the start of May. First up was an elite training session from the Manchester City Women's squad. Westdyke coach, David Hodgson said: 'I think they're having a great time out there today, they might be wanting us to do some new drills next week!'.
Next up, was a short trip along the road to The Theatre of Dreams to take in Manchester United take on West Bromich Albion, with Megan Taylor stating that 'the noise was deafening!'. Over the course of the trip, the girls also played out challenge matches vs local opposition, first of all against Stockport County Ladies and then narrowly losing out by just a 2 goal margin vs Manchester City Ladies. Anna Blanchard was upbeat despite the defeat, stating that the team 'could have won', with Piper Kerr describing the experience as 'fantastic'.
There was no time to contemplate the result though, as it was straight out on the road again to go and watch Everton Ladies vs Notts County Ladies in the Women's FA Cup semi-final. The trip was rounded off in style with a behind the scenes tour of Newcastle United's stadium, St James Park, with most of the girl's staring in awe at the sheer size of the arena.
As a parting thought, Caitlin Harries described the trip as having made 'a real difference to so many people - it's brought us all closer, on behalf of my team mates, thank you for a rewarding experience.' See below for their highlights video of their experience:
