East End Thistle put seven past Dundee West in their Trans World Soccer Scottish Youth FA Cup 3rd round match at Downfield playing fields. David McDonald started and finished the scoring in the match with Billy Campbell also grabbing a couple of goals for himself. Andrew Murdoch, Paul O’Hear and Gareth Cairney chipped in with goals themselves and the result sees East End Thistle comfortably through to the next round.
It was not long into the match when McDonald opened the scoring for East End Thistle. After latching onto a neat pass he found himself bearing down on goal and slotted past the Dundee West goalkeeper Connaire Dulley to make it 1-0.
Just a few minutes later Campbell extended East End’s lead to 2. The forward latched onto a ball that had been looped over the Dundee West defensive line and, despite being put under pressure by a challenging defender, managed to poke the ball beyond Dulley into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
The Dundee West back line were being made to work hard by the pace and power on show from the East End attackers. On the 23rd minute they broke through once more. Campbell, with possession of the ball, drove into the opposition’s 18-yard box and dispatched his shot into the bottom right hand corner again. Despite Dundee West’s best efforts they were 3 down.
The one way traffic continued and on the 29th minute East End Thistle were awarded a free kick about 25 yards from goal. Gareth Cairney stood up to take the free kick and his effort came crashing back off the cross bar. Unfortunately for Dundee West the ball landed at the feet of Murdoch, who fired the rebound into the back of the net.
A few minutes after this and an opportunity fell the way of Dundee West. Robbie Low had made a great run down the right wing and into the penalty area. His low cross was blocked by a defender and the ball trickled agonisingly wide of goal.
In the closing minutes of the half McDonald had another pop at goal from 20 yards out. His effort flew just wide of the post.
