U15 Ayrshire Schools FA League Cup - Final
Dam Park, Ayr
30 April 2014
The Ayrshire Schools FA final season got underway on a Wednesday night at Dam Park in Ayr. Over the next series of weeks, schools from all over the greater Ayrshire area will contest league play-offs and cup finals galore in an effort to be crowned the strongest team in the region.
First up were Carrick Academy and Kyle Academy's Under 15 squads. A cautious start by both sides saw a shortage of goalmouth action in the first half. The Carrick strikers looked lively, but weren't able to carve open a well organised Kyle defence.
Carrick continued to press as the second half kicked off, winning a number of potentially threatening free kicks, which came to nothing. At the other end, Kyle hit the woodwork with a shot from midfield.
The sides remained deadlocked with the end of regulation time approaching, however a twist in the tail was on the way. A Carrick corner was cleared and Kyle skipper Frazer Dempsey picked the ball up on the edge of his own area. Dempsey surged forward with the ball, brushing past challenge after challenge. Upon reaching the opposition's 18 yard line, he unleashed a shot which couldn't be held by the goalkeeper and found its way into the back of the net.
Jubilation for the Kyle players and supporters, but heart-break for the deflated Carrick side.
