Hurlford Boys Club hosted Crosshouse Athletic on Sunday in a top of the table clash in the CAYFA under 13 league.
An excellent Crosshouse team were looking to remain unbeaten in the league while a dogged Hurlford team were looking to avenge the recent heavy defeat in the cup to Crosshouse. Crosshouse won the toss and decided to play with the strong wind at their backs although if truth be told both teams struggled with the wind either with or against.
Crosshouse started well and moved the ball about the park with ease however it was clear Hurlford had no intention of sitting back and letting them get their own way and chased and harried Crosshouse all over the park. There were very few clear cut chances until the Crosshouse left winger cut inside and unleashed a thunderous shoot towards the Hurlford goal the shot looked to be dipping under the bar but the Hurlford goalkeeper somehow managed to adjust his feet and dig the ball out from underneath the bar to make a fine save however the Crosshouse striker was quickest to react and manage to knock in the rebound to give Crosshouse a 1-0 half time lead.
Half Time: Hurlford BC 0-1 Crosshouse Athletic
The second half went from end to end without to many clear cut chances however the Hurlford goalkeeper was slightly the busier of the two. As the half went on Hurlford started to get more and more into the match and were awarded a penalty after a Crosshouse player handled in the box. The Hurlford captain stepped up and dispatched the penalty with the minimum of fuss to the keepers right.
The Hurlford equaliser seemed to drain some of the Crosshouse believe this gave Hurlford the encouragement they needed to chase the winner which they delivered with 5 minutes to go through great link up play between the two Hurlford strikers who cut through the Crosshouse defence to slide the ball in from close range.
The match was a great advert for boys football with both teams playing hard but fair and finishing the match with hand shakes between players and coaches. The result will see the chase for the CAYFA under 13 league title go to the wire between 3 or 4 excellent teams.
