Due to the weather the game was played on astro turf but this did not deter the quality of football played by the two teams.
Girdle toll started strongly however Irvine thistle withheld the pressure and starting to take control with some quick passing and movement took the lead with a superb lob by Ryan Howat and deservedly scored their second with a flowing move starting with Irvine captain Sam Auld and with the ball finding Liam McKie on the edge of the box he volleyed it into the bottom left corner of the net with the Girdle keeper motionless.
Half Time: Irvine Thistle 2-0 Girdle Toll YFC
The 2nd half kicked off frantically and Girdle Toll scored a deserved goal, however Irvine thistle pressed once more and straight from a corner Liam McKie scored a superb 3rd goal for Irvine.
Girdle now made changes and this led to a goal. Girdle were enjoying much more of the play now as they pressed for an equaliser. Cameron Easton the Irvine keeper had little saves to make though and Irvine held on to move 10 points in front of their local rivals.
A man of the match performance from captain Sam Auld who was tireless in his work and motivation all game. Praise to both teams who played out the game as a derby should be played in what was difficult conditions.
