Stewarton and Bonnyton took to the field on a bright February morning in one of the few games in the league to beat the weather. Bonnyton were rightly considered the favourites for the game due to sitting in third place in the league and their recent 4-1 home win over Stewarton.
Stewarton had shown massive signs of improvement lately and were confident of upsetting the visitors.

Both teams started the game well, but there were very few chances created until the 22nd minute when Bonnyton striker Masterton outpaced the Stewarton defence to latch onto Reid’s lobbed pass to slot the ball past McDonald in the Stewarton goal.
After the goal Bonnyton continued with long balls to their wide players in the hope of catching the Stewarton defence out, but the Stewarton back four of Sommers, Muir, Maider and Spears coped well until a minute before the break when Neilson took advantage of a mix up in the Stewarton defence to double the advantage at half time.

Bonnyton continued to attack from the start of the second half and were unlucky not to go 3-0 up when a deflected shot hit the base of the Stewarton post.
However, this represented a turning point in the game and slowly but surely, the Stewarton midfield helped by excellent performances from Wilson and Stevenson started to take control of the match.
Stewarton reduced the deficit 15 minutes into the second half when Stevenson won an aerial battle with a Bonnyton defender and goalkeeper to head the ball into the empty net.
Stewarton were now the team in charge and pushed hard for the equaliser. This duly arrived when the Bonnyton keeper made a good save from a Calum Ross drive, only for Adam Barclay to finish-off the rebound into the net from 18 yards.
As the game came to a close, only one team looked likely to win the match as Stewarton pushed for the winner, but time was against them and the game remained all square.
Both teams deserve immense credit for putting on an excellent football match played in a competitive, but sporting manner.
