U16 Paisley Johnstone & District YFL - D2
Stewarton SC
The scene was set for a classic game of youth football as Harmony Row visited Ayrshire. With their own thoughts still on the league title they hoped to turn over a Stewarton team that had yet to drop a point in the 6 league games they have played this season. Stewarton sat top and Harmony Row 4th.

The game started. BANG - goal! A beautifully flighted ball to the back post saw Carruth rise highest to nod the ball goal ward only to see the ball ricochet off the post and run back along the line where Hunter was waiting to tap in. The next 20 minutes saw the Harmony Row goalkeeper having to save 4 times from one on ones as Mason and Carruth sought to increase Stewartons lead.

It was Harmony Row that was to get the next goal though as a poorly defended corner was glanced in at the near post. Game On? Not really! Stewarton had been dominant and took the lead again as Mason slotted home neatly from a Hamill pass.
10 minutes later and the big striker added his second after Hamill again played him through. Take the foot off the gas? No chance as first Carruth then Mason completing his hat trick made it 5 to Stewarton as the half time whistle went.

Half Time: Stewarton Annick 5-1 Harmony Row

Second Half began the way the first half ended as 3 minutes into the half midfielder Campbell deftly lobbed the keeper from 25 yards. You would think Harmony Row were not in this game but thtat was not true as they tried although to no avail to press Stewarton on the counter but Stewarton's rearguard as it has been all season were solid and in no mood to concede another.

Stewarton dominated play but started to become slack with the final ball, forsaking the easy passing philosophy for some attempts at killer balls that didn't quite come off. Some tasty challenges unfortunately resulted in a couple of yellow cards but this game was not dirty - far from it.

Stewarton decided to press quickly again and another goal was inevitable as a corner was headed home by midfielder Hunter for his second of the game and Stewarton's 7th.

More chances came but unfortunately none could be converted. It is fair to say that Stewarton dominated this game all over the park and had it or been for some fine goalkeeping from Greg Maine in the Harmony Row goals and some poor finishing Stewarton would have racked up a cricket score.

Stewarton turn their attention to the West Regional Cup next week, welcoming Renton to Ayrshire.
