Eastwood headed into the Supplementary Cup Final looking to get revenge over United for a 9-1 league defeat which United inflicted on them earlier in the season.

Eastwood were able to make the perfect start in their search for revenge by taking an early lead through Rhys Thomson.  An Eastwood free kick was played into the area from the half way line.  The clearance from a United defender was skied and Thomson followed the ball in and headed in before the keeper could get a touch on it.

After conceding the first goal United took complete control of the game.  They created many chances most of which did not trouble the keeper.

Dylan McLeod looked a threat throughout the game and he created a chance for himself which did cause Eastwood’s keeper to make a save.  McLeod picked the ball up deep in the midfield and drove at the heart of the Eastwood defence.  The midfielder got into the box and took a shot which was well saved by Lewis Andrews.  The rebound ran to Christopher Barrie who blasts his shot off the bar from 5 yards out.

Another good chance for United to equalise came from a corner on the right hand side taken by Christopher Barrie.  His drilled cross was met by Dylan McLeod who saw his header cleared off the line the man on the back post.

The final real chance of the half was for Tass again as the dominated the ball and penned Eastwood back deep in their own half.  This time, Callum Alexander broke down the right hand channel and into the box where his powerful driven shot was saved by the keeper.  Again, Christopher Barrie got onto the rebound and saw his shot saved by Eastwood’s Andrews.

Before the half ended, Tass created a few more half chances that were unable to really test Eastwood.  And as the teams left the park for half time Eastwood were still on top 1-0.

At half time, Eastwood will be really happy with the score.  They have been on the back foot ever since they scored but have stood strong and kept a clean thus far.  United will continued with what they are doing – they are creating loads they just need someone to take a chance that they are presented with.

Half Time:  Eastwood Juveniles 1 – 0 United 97s

United kicked off the second half and were almost immediately given the chance to equalise.

They were awarded a penalty for hand ball after an Eastwood defender tried to block a shot while his hands were raised.  Dylan McLeod took the kick and drove the ball into the net to get the goal United deserved.

After being pegged back Eastwood went on to look for another goal to re-establish their lead.  Deen Hassan played in Darren Law who had peeled away to the right hand side of the United area.  Law tried to place his shot inside the far post but saw his effort finish just wide.

United then should have taken the lead with the next attack of the game.  Jordan Dunne was able to get to the byline where he cut the ball back to Callum Alexander who was inside the 6 yard box.  Alexander took a touch and then shot but was denied by a terrific reaction save by Lewis Andrews.

United were able to get ahead after Callum Alexander and Dylan McLeod combined to create space for Alexander who made a driving run in from the right wing.  Alexander picked the ball up around the half way line and drove towards goal.  He played a 1-2 with McLeod on the edge of the area and was able to drive the ball into the bottom corner with a left footed shot.

The next 10 minutes of play was filled with three more goals.  Firstly, Dylan McLeod got on the score sheet again after more brilliant work from the midfielder.  McLeod picked the ball up on the edge of the area and showed good skills to get passed three defenders and was able to pick his spot in the Eastwood net to make the score 3-1.

With the next attack Eastwood went up the other end of the pitch and got themselves back into the game.  Deen Hassan played the ball out to Ryan Mackie on the right wing.  Mackie flicked the ball with the outside of his right foot into the path of Darren Law who lobbed the keeper from the edge of the area.  The finish capped off a fantastic move from Eastwood.

With the final attack of the game United put the game passed Eastwood with a killer goal.  Ashley Wilson’s finish for his side’s fourth goal was very similar to the goal Darren Law had just scored for Eastwood.  He was played in on the right hand side of the area and lobbed the onrushing keeper.

At full time United won 4-2.  They deserved the win as they dominated the game from 10 minutes in and created many, many chances.  Eastwood will be pleased with their performance – they were beaten by a better side and cannot be too downhearted with their showing.

The Man of the Match award for Eastwood goes to their captain David Milton.  He organised their defence very well in the first half keeping the scores at 1-0.  During the second half when his team were behind he never gave up and tried his best to inspire his team mates.  For United, Dylan McLeod wins the Man of the Match award.  He was outstanding today and at the heart of everything United did well.  He continually looked to create for himself and his team mates.
