Ayr Boswell Under 16s
 vs
Irvine Youth FC Under 16s

Competition: Wallace Gemmell Trophy - Semi Final

Date: 05/02/2012

Hot favourites Boswell could not handle a very determined and spirited Irvine Youth side in a cracking cup semi-final tie . Youth took an early lead from a great free kick from Ryan Lawson on the left side of his own half to the far corner of the Boswell box and Dale Clark was up to header the ball into Reece Geals path who in turn then cheekily lobbed the 6 foot keeper for a brilliant goal.

Boswell played some nice football at times but just could not threaten the confident Youth keeper Kyle McClelland with anything serious . Youth then played some lovely neat passing before Dylan Kirk smashed a shot from 30 yards which hit the bar but as it came back out the alert Reece Geals was was on hand first to anticipate and knock the ball past the diving keeper for his and Youth's second goal of the game to make it 2 - 0 at half time .

As expected Boswell came out in the second half after making a few substitutions looking to step it up a gear but the solid defence of  Irvine were coping fine with the majority of it until Boswell got a corner midway through the second half , it was a great cross into the box but just as defender Darren MacIntyre rose to head clear he was blatantly pushed to the ground from behind but the ref was unsighted and when Darius Graham of Boswell headed the ball into the net the goal stood, much to the amazement of the Youth players and coaches and even some of the Boswell support.

This seemed to give Boswell a lift for the next 10 minutes but Irvine who defended from the front today rode it out and nearly caught Boswell on the break a few times, and when Reece Geals chased down a ball over the top he was brought crashing down in the box but the ref waved away the penalty claim.

Youth then saw out the remaining minutes comfortably and deservedly booked their place in the final against the winners of Glenafton v Crosshouse which was called off due to a frozen pitch.
