A second half brace from Anton Phinn was enough to see Rutherglen Glencairn crowned Scottish Cup champions at the expense of Barrhead YFC.
The match was evenly contested throughout, with both sides showing the quality that got them to the showpiece event in Airdrie.
The day began with a show of rememberance as both teams observed a presentation to mark the memory of Anton Houghton, the Barrhead youth player who sadly lost his life in April. The presentation was respected by both sets of fans, offering a reminder that in the end there are things far more important than football. A minute's applause followed and the match was soon underway.
Rutherglen offered the first attempt at goal five minutes in when Lewis Watt took in a cross from the right hand side to fire over the bar.
Barrhead had their first sight of goal just a few minutes later when Andrew McLaughlin tried his luck only to see his effort deflected behind. From the resulting corner, McLaughlin tried again, this time his effort going over the bar.
Glencairn had a great opportunity to open the scoring on the 25 minute mark when a cross from Watt, after some great work down the wing, fell to Ryan Clark, only for his effort to blaze over the bar.
From the restart Barrhead themselves almost took the lead when a cross from the left fell right on the head of William Lennox, whose effort was straight into the plams of Kyle Pirie in the Rutherglen goal.
Michael Lone very nearly had Rutherglen in front with perhaps the best chance of the first half when he took advantage of some slack defensive play to steal possession, only for him to drag his shot wide of goal.
Another opportunity fell to Rutherglen just two minutes later after a great counter attack saw the ball fall into the path of Watt who opted to shoot with the outside of his boot, allowing Stuart Collins in the Barrhead goal to claim.
