Goals from Summer Christie and Kirsty MacLean were enough for Rangers Under 15s to come out on top in the SWF Youth Cup final against Hibernian at Oriam. Hibernian equalised after Christie opened the scoring thanks to Lalita Hirani.
Rangers's route to the final saw wins over Aberdeen, Hamilton, Central Girls and Glasgow in what has been a tough route for the Glasgow side, whilst Hibernian beat Drumchapel United, Deveronvale, Lanarkshire Hibs and Kilmarnock to reach the final. The Edinburgh outfit had some physical challenges on the road to Oriam.
Both teams sprayed the ball about on the artificial surface well in the opening exchanges of the game with Rangers recording the first real chance on four minutes after Jodi McLeary played an excellent ball into Abbie McKay, however the forwards effort went over the bar as the Glasgow side went in search of an opener.
Rangers were looking really dangerous and on four minutes, a Hannah Jordan free kick found Kirsty McLean whose thumping header towards goal went over the bar, a tame shot from the hosts a couple of minutes later by Louise Donohoe was denied by Grace Mitchell in the Hibernian goal.
Hibernian got into the game as the half wore on and an excellent ball from the left hand side by Ella Biamire was blocked by Rosie Slater of Rangers before coming into the pathway of Eilidh McEwan who knocked a good effort just over the bar.
A good ball across the midfield by Eilidh Martin found it's way wide to McLeary whose low shot towards the bottom left hand corner was met by Mitchell. It was action packed start to the game with very little to seperate the teams after the opening 10 minutes.
Hibernian threatened again on 15 minutes with a quick throw in by Erin O'Neill finding Biamire who got clear of the Rangers backline before firing across an effort on goal however her 10 yard effort hit the side netting, both sides were playing some exciting, positive football however there was a lack of quality on the final product.
Rangers were very ambitious in their approach and on 19 minutes, a speculative effort by Slater after a fantastic ball by Jordan just went over the bar after Slater tried a 40 yard effort on goal, the Glasgow side continued to threaten Hibernian and a Jordan pass found it's way into Summer Christie whose 20 yard effort went wide of the left hand post.
