Cove Boys Club sealed a local derby against Banks O’Dee Albion in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup after a 2-0 victory at home to Erskine Youth. Goals from Liam Duthie and McKenzie Gove were enough to put the Aberdeen side through.

Erskine might be mid table in the Paisley and Johnstone District League however they showed enough in this game that they are in a false position in their respective league. Cove has a strong home record and this result maintained that.

The hosts got a breakthrough with just a minute and a half on the clock after a ball from Josh Robb was found by Liam Duthie unmarked who volleyed home a fine finish to give Cove the best possible start.

Erskine then tried to put level just a couple of minutes later through Andrew Wilson after he got past the Cove defence before giving himself a clear cut opening however his effort was saved by Lloyd Sharp in the hosts goal.

Ramsay Davidson then tried to double Coves advantage with a smashing free kick in the 22nd minute however unfortunately for himself and Cove his forceful free kick smacked off the bar and the visitors cleared to safety.

Cove were very dangerous going forward and another chance gone begging for the hosts with a ball from Robb finding Charlie Rothnie who was clean through on goal however his effort just went wide.

Cove continued to press Erskine and a great delivery in found Rothnie who was desperate to get himself on the scoresheet however his effort was denied by Andrew Paton in the visiting goal. Rothnie then had an angled effort denied by Paton again.

A decisive 2nd goal went in on 53 minutes. A great ball was sent in by Ramsay Davidson which found McKenzie Gove who broke clear of the Erskine backline before finishing off a header after being unmarked.

Erskine then to reduce the deficit with minutes counting down on the clock with Ben Lavety through on goal however the Cove defence got back in time to deny the forward thinking player with a superb challenge.

There wasn’t really much between the teams on what can only be described as a bobbly pitch with extremely muddy bits in areas of the pitch which was no surprise given the weather that has deteriorated the fixture card in Aberdeen over the past couple of months. Cove deserved the victory and could have added more to their tally however Erskine came to the Granite City and gave a good account of themselves.

Cove make the short trip along the road to Spain Park next Sunday and it promises to be a cracker with both teams up the top end of the ADJFA Under 13s A league. It’s going to be a big game not just for the two clubs concerned however also for the region as a whole.

Josh Robb: Cove's star player could have gone to anybody however Josh provided the decisive moments for the hosts. He got himself an assist & also gave the Erskine defence problems. It was a team performance though.
Andrew Wilson - Andrew was very unlucky not to get on the score sheet & he gave Cove problems. Erskine played well as a team though.
