The 2017 WOSYFL Presidents Cup Final was won by Valspar FC by 2 goals to 1 over Ayr Boswell in a pulsating game at Dam Park. The two sides are currently neck and neck in the league with Boswell currently clear of Valspar by two points. They had only met once this season before the final, with Valspar getting the better of Boswell on that occasion, winning 4-2.

Valspar started the game kicking left to right, at 12 O' Clock in a sunny Ayr. Boswell started off the game well, pressing Valspar high up the park.

Despite this, Valspar had the first chance in the fifth minute, when a flick on from Ross Clark nearly made it through to his strike partner Joe White, only for the on rushing Daniel Gray to gather it first.

Valspar continued to create chances and finally took one with Clark, controlling the ball in the box, then turning nicely and blasting the ball across Gray into the left hand corner.

The striker, who had been a stand out in the first 12 minutes, was mauled by his team mates in celebration of his fantastic finish.

Following Clark’s strike Valspar continued to attack the Boswell goal and doubled their lead in the 33rd minute, with Clark once again involved.

The number 7 yet again finding space in the right hand side of the box to play a pin point pass across to the on rushing Lucas Elliot.

Elliot’s shot was heading wide but was blasted into the net by the clearing defender, giving Valspar a two goal cushion before the break.

Boswell kicked off the second half, as they looked to try and get back into the final as soon as possible.

They nearly did in the 51st minute with Daniel Wilson and Lee Young linking up with a nice one two down the left wing amd Wilson crossing in towards Euan Muir at the back post but he was unable to connect.

As the game progressed, Boswell continued to dominate, with Valspar struggling to create any real chances, as they looked to hurt Boswell on the counter. Chance after chance kept falling to Boswell and in the 63rd minute Young found Ross Copeland on the edge of the box, but his curling effort went just wide of the right hand post.

With the clock ticking, tiredness began to kick in and Clark’s high foot on an oncoming Boswell player in the 71st minute saw him receive yellow and gave Boswell a perfect goal scoring opportunity.

Which Wilson took, with a powerful free kick into the top left hand corner, and despite Chris Taylor getting a hand on it he was unable to keep it out.

The goal brought Boswell right back into the final with 18 minutes to go and in the aftermath of the goal the Boswell manager was pushing them forward for an equaliser.

One they nearly got 4 minutes later, with Jack Taylor capitalising on a Valspar defensive mix up to go one on one with Chris Taylor. However, the young shot stopper made himself big and pulled off a fantastic close range save to deny the striker.

Despite Boswell needing a goal, they were pinned back by Valspar in the last 10 minutes.

Tempers boiled over at the end of the match with Daniel Robson getting sent off in 90+2’. Valspar saw off the game and were crowned winners and will look to use this result to kick them on in the league this season and potentially complete a double.
