Bathgate reached the Senior Girls Scottish cup final thanks to a nervy penalty shoot-out win over Nicolson Institute. Nicolson fought back from two goals down to take the tie to penalties but it wasn't enough unfortunately.
The first chance fell the way of Bathgate. An in swinging corner from Kirstie McIntosh looks for the head of Katie Barrie but it is just too high as Barrie fails to connect. Barrie was looking well in the mood as just a minute later she found that extra yard on her marker and let fly from distance but her effort drifted wide of the target. And just five minutes Barrier got her reward for her dangerous play. Monica Anderson played the ball out wide and Barrie set chase before cutting inside and unleashing a curling effort from the edge of the box which nestled in the top corner of the net to give Bathgate a much deserved lead.
Moments later Bathgate were on the front foot again. Antonia Evans played a neat pass into Sophie McMillan who saw her curling effort just go wide.
Nicolson's first opportunity came halfway through the half. Following good build up play from the back the ball fell to Kirsty MacDonald but her shot went over the bar. Minutes later Nicolson had another opportunity. A free kick situated just outside the dee of the box but Leanne MacDonald also saw her shot go over.
As Nicolson looked to be growing into the game, Bathgate doubled their advantage. Anderson took four Nicolson defenders out the game following excellent footwork in the middle of the park before passing wide to the feet of Barrie. She rolled the ball out of her feet before curling an unstoppable effort again to the top right hand corner. Fabulous build up for a simply outstanding goal.
Nicolson then so nearly pulled one back on the stroke of half time. The ball was bouncing around the Bathgate box so Christine MacKinnon swung a right foot at it, however Lauren Brown comfortably saved it.
