Hutchison Vale U13s dispatched Edina Hibs on their own turf to progress into the semi-final of the South East Region Cup in a close fought affair between two giants of youth football.
It was the visitors who started with a bang and took the lead within two minutes. N. Jollie, who was set to cause the Edina defence trouble all day, was released on the right before playing in an early cross for C. Fraser in the centre. With a heavy touch from the striker, he had a lot to do but after rounding the keeper he took his time to set and open the scoring.
Minutes later, Jollie was free again in his favourable position following a great ball from J. Stewart but the shot from a fairly tight angle lacked power.
Edina were attempting to get themselves back into the game and carved out an opening through excellent work from S. Kenny. He managed to beat his man down the right, playing a channel ball for the striker to latch onto but the move only resulted in a corner.
Shortly before half time, Hutchie had the ball in the net again through Fraser but the referee called for offside to the dismay of the visiting support.
The second half-chance for Edina came to W. Scott from the left hand side. He managed to break away and find space but the shot was blazed over calling an end to the first half.

Spectators would have been looking for a more eventful second half as the first included a lot of end to end possession without a finishing product.
Edina were aware of their position in this tie and came out for the second half with real intent on changing the score line.
A trio of chances fell their way in the space of a few minutes.
B. Hunter lobbed a ball over the top for Jollie but N. McFadden in the Hutchie goal smothered the shot. It was D. Duncan to have a go next finding himself with a one on one against McFadden but again the keeper was equal to it. Kenny’s strike ended the spell of pressure but was caught well with a diving save.
Against the run of play, Hutchie managed to extend their lead with an excellent counter attacking goal.
An Edina corner was cleared allowing J. Gordon to latch onto it and make a break for the goal. Following a good run he squared for Fraser to stroke it past the keeper and in for his second.
With a sense of urgency picking up in Edina’s play they were working hard to get themselves back in the game but time was running out.
Their last chance fell to W. Scott from a corner but the shot didn’t threaten the clean sheet.
In a game that lacked real goal scoring opportunities from both sides, it was Hutchie who were the more clinical in front of goal.

S. Kenny worked very hard for his team throughout and showed great composure on the ball.
N. Jollies was a major asset all day for Hutchie on the right. Constantly finding space and showing real quality crossing and directness running at the Edina defence.

The reaction in the second half from Edina was excellent and they were unlucky not to get themselves back into the game after a good spell of pressure.
R. Hamilton's near perfect free-kick came back off the crossbar in the second half. Would have been a cracking goal had it went in.
