Craigmount High School

Lothian Schools Senior Divison

22 November 2014

The pitch was heavy, which made playing our usual style difficult. Craigmount started the stronger side and had 2 decent chances in the first five minutes.

Malcolm and Callum Dunn were settling into their partnership at the back and only some hurried clearances and a good stop from Luke kept us level.

On seven minutes James Young snatched the lead. A ball from Liam down the right sent Craig in behind and he managed to force a corner. Kieran took the corner and floated it right on to Craig's head who made no mistake in putting James Young 1-0 up.

Over the next ten minutes the game went from end to end without any real chances.

Then on twenty two minutes another move down the James Young right saw Craig beat his man before sending a cross into the front post. It looked as if the defender was going to clear it, but under good pressure from Aaron, he sliced it into his own net, 2-0.

The next five minutes saw Craigmount almost get back into the game. First Luke had to turn a shot onto the post then, a goal saving challenge from Kieran. As the striker was sent clean through, Luke came out well and forced him slightly wide, it looked like a certain goal, but as he pulled the trigger, Kieran slid in with the block, brilliant defending.

Dom was doing a lot of good defensive work on the left hand side, helping out Hugh.

Every time Dom got the ball he looked dangerous and combined with Aaron they gave the Craigmount defence a torrid time all day.

On thirty three minutes Dom had a great run, he picked the ball up just over the half way line and drove at the defence. Like a young Ronaldinho he beat about three players before cutting the ball back to Craig, it was just out of reach and the defender got the block in.

From a free kick on the edge of the box, the initial shot was cleared firstly by Callum, then by Malcolm. Unfortunately it fell to the Craigmount number six who drilled it through a ruck of players and just beyond Luke, who saw it late, 2-1.

Half Time : James Young High School 2-1 Craigmount High School

The first half had been quite even, but the second saw James Young take complete control.

Kai and Cully started to dominate the midfield and Craigmount looked short of ideas. This allowed Liam and Dom to be much more offensive and really start to cause problems. The James Young back four also looked far more comfortable winning everything in the air and communicating better with those in front of them.

On twelve minutes, Kai and Cully won the ball before passing to Dom, he cut inside his man then another, before slipping it through to Aaron who had made a great run in behind. He was clean through and looked certain to score but the keeper stood up well and Aaron's low shot hit the post and went behind.

Eight minutes later and Dom went one better. Hugh brought the ball out from the back before finding Dom. He beat his man again, but this time he drove for the front post. He drew the keeper out before cooly slotting past him into the net. 3-1.

Craigmount looked down and out now.

The Craigmount keeper made a few good stops but we only had our own poor finishing to blame for not being completely out of sight.

This was summed up perfectly in our next attack. Cully played a through ball to send Craig clean through. He set himself well but again the keeper made the save, the rebound fell to Aaron who hit the ball towards what looked like an empty net, somehow the keeper managed to get back up and complete a great double save.
