Member of Parliament for Edinburgh South, Ian Murray MP, paid a visit to Inch Park on Saturday 8th November to see for himself the incredible work being done by Edinburgh South FC Soccer School where over 100 kids aged from 5-10 years old regularly come along to get their first taste of the beautiful game.
During his visit Ian was shown how the youngest children are introduced to the basics of ball control right up to the game tactics of the players who play in soccer 4s and 7s.
Following his visit Ian said “I thoroughly enjoyed my morning at the Edinburgh South FC Soccer School. Over 100 kids took part in training and matches coached by a dedicated and professional group of volunteer coaches. As well as the soccer school they also run teams from under 7s to under 19s.
"Local community teams and coaching schools for all abilities could not take place without an army of volunteers who give up their time for both the love of the game and the benefit of the kids involved. They deserve the thanks from everyone in the community.”
At the end of the session Ian was delighted to hand out trophies and certificates to the days worthy recipients.
Following Ian’s visit Edinburgh South FC Chairman, Brian Waugh, said “we were delighted to welcome Ian along to see the terrific work being done by everyone at the soccer school. These kids are the lifeblood of ESFC and our future stars!
"The soccer school is the entry point into our conveyor of talent which leads all the way through to soccer 7’s, 11’s and to Whitehill Welfare. With the level of dedication we see within ESFC, I am also highly confident that we will see some of our most gifted graduate to the professional game. Having Ian’s awareness and support for our efforts does a lot to enhance the club’s reputation and profile.”
