A strong Heart's side including a couple of first team players in Robinson and Holt went down 3-2 to a hard working Thistle side in this exciting match at New Victoria Park. Hearts went into this game sitting one place above their opposition in the league table and were looking to keep that statistic after the final whistle.

Thistle were out of the blocks quickly and threatened the Hearts goal in the second minute when Kevin Nesbitt played in Neil McLaughlin who saw his powerful shot blocked on the edge of the box.

Heart's opened the scoring in this fixture nine minutes into the half after James Keatings found the right hand corner after his strike from the left hand side of the box.

The Jambo's created a couple of good opportunities after the opener with Scott Robinson trying his luck from outside the box but his shot went over the bar and the goal scorer Keatings stung the fingers of Marc Waters who had to tip over the bar.

The visitors played some nice football in the midfield area and this led to a chance for Declan McDaid who picked the ball up and from 22yards out hit a sweet strike but unfortunately was straight at Scott Gallacher in the Heart's goal who claimed comfortably.

Thistle got back on level terms when Aaron Muirhead met a ball in the box only to see his effort come of the bar and Dominic McLaren reacted quickest to put the rebound home out to get his team right back into the game with 20 minutes gone.

Thistle were in control at this stage and Jordan Leyden felt optimistic when he tried his luck from 25yards but it would have had to be something special to beat Gallacher from that far out.

The Jags had a great opportunity on the half hour mark to get in their noses in front when McDaid was upended just inside the box and the ref pointed to the spot. McDaid dusted himself down and slotted the penalty home to the keeper's left who was a very unlucky not to keep it out as he got a strong hand to the ball.

Keatings and Holt both came close with headers to get Heart's back on level terms with Keatings effort just going wide of the left hand post and Holts just going over the bar.

The men in maroon pressed forward looking for the equalizer before half time and forced a trio of corners but unfortunately could not capitalize.

Partick could have went into the break two goals up when Gallacher forced his name sake into a good save at the second attempt at his near post .

Two minutes into the the second half and with the fog coming down, Keatings cut in from the left and unleashed a powerful shot which saw Gallacher having to react quickly to palm the ball out and it was Keatings again who came close but Thistle's Muirhead blocked well.

Heart's had a penalty claim in the 52nd minute when Robinson went done just inside the box but the referee waved aside his protest.

The men from the West were playing some nice football in the middle of the park as were the home side and the midfield was becoming a real battle ground which saw Heart's Beith going into the ref's book for a rash challenge and Thistle's Leyden suffered the same fate only minutes later when he saw yellow for foolishly kicking the ball away.

Keating's who seemed to be everywhere on the park was next to have a shot at goal but was deflected for a Heart's corner. Beith played in the resulting corner which was to close to Waters who snatched it out of the air comfortably.

From a Thistle freekick, McLaren played in McDaid who drove in from the right hand side but saw his shot go high and wide of the target. Gallacher was on the end of the Jags next chance when after receiving a cut back shot across the keeper but his effort went wide of the far post.

McGlaughlin was next to come close when after a good Thistle move his shot went narrowly wide of the Jambo's right hand post.

Then slightly against the run of play Heart's scored their second of the game when from a corner the ball was cleared then played back into the box for Buchanan to nod home with just over a quarter of the half remaining.

The Heart's players had the bit between their teeth and Liam Henderson provided a lovely driven cross low across the box which evaded everyone in front of goal. Heart's then produced the move of the game when a long ball from the back down Heart's left hand side saw Keatings control the ball beautifully on his chest then play a perfectly weighted angled ball into the path of Robinson who struck a low drive which waters got down well too save.

The home side continued to create with Taylor rising to meet the ball played in by Roy from the corner but he just could not get enough on the the ball to direct it goal wards then McLaren had his shot blocked.

Thistle nearly punished there opposition when a slack pass in the midfield was latched onto by Nesbitt who drove in on goal and forced Gallacher into an acrobatic save which was more comfortable than he made it look and Nesbitt probably felt he should have done better.

With minutes remaining both teams pushed for the winner, Gallacher played in McGlaughlin who slipped as he made contact with the ball 10yds out but still forced Gallacher to punch clear.

Ninety minutes on the clock and with both teams looking like they would share the points, Thistle grabbed the winner when Muirhead blasted home finding the right hand side of the net even though Gallacher did get a slight hand to it he could not keep the powerful shot out.

A few Heart's players came close but James Keatings gets the nomination not just for the getting the Jambo's opener but his work rate and enthusiasm was fantastic. Every time you looked he seemed to be involved with all that was good about Heart's.
There were many stand out performers for Thistle but Declan McDaid gets the nod and is a worthy recipient. Drive and determination saw him win the penalty and then took responsibility to take it and score. He covered every blade of grass in the match and looked to get on the ball at every opportunity and provided a threat to Heart's all night.

Jack Ross, coach of Hearts, said: "The development league this season is about trying to improve our younger players and to give them the opportunity to be ready for first team football, so results are often irrelevant for us. The players will still develop that feeling that they don't want to loose last minutes goals so there is a balance always to be struck with the reality of competitive football and the development of the younger players. There was lots of positives in the game for us even with loosing the goal in the last minute."
Scott McKenzie, coach of Partick Thistle Fc, said: "I thought we fully deserved the win tonight and thought the boys were great. A lot of the boy's came in who have not played , not started or even trained last week and done a job for us tonight. We were very positive tonight with two up top to stop Heart's building from the back. We lost two silly goals but if you switch off you get punished in this league. We scored three good goals and could have scored more and I am delighted with the boys performance tonight against a very good Heart's side with a couple of first team players in it."
