Peebles were going to be up against it against Blackhall who had secured a 5-0 victory just over two weeks ago up in Edinburgh. However, Peebles certainly started the stronger and put the away defence under pressure straight from the kick off.
Peebles created a couple of half chances in the opening minutes and took the lead after about 10 minutes when Tait made a run down the right wing and cut the ball back to Newton who hit a first time shot from about 10 yards to the keepers left for the opening goal, 1-0.
Peebles continued to press and created a couple of chances, one of which was cleared off the line and the other hitting the underside of the bar and bouncing away from the goal.
Blackhall had been reduced to several half chances with the Peebles defence on top. Peebles eventually extended their lead when Anderson attacked down the left side of the box and his cross/shot going over the keepers head into the far corner of the net, 2-0.
Blackhall started coming back into the game more and got a goal back when a shot from outside the box was spilled by the Peebles keeper into the net, 2-1.
Just a couple of minutes later Blackhall were given an indirect free kick inside the Peebles box for the keeper having picked up a backpass, from the resultant free kick the keeper made a save up to his right to keep the score at half time at 2-1.
Half Time: Peebles 2-1 Blackhall Athletic
Peebles made several changes at the break with the keepers position one of them. Soon after Blackhall had an effort on goal with the Peebles keeper, Birrell going to his left he then managed to stick out his right hand to deflect the effort up and over the bar.
A couple of early corners also caused the Peebles defence some concerns but on each occasion they managed to clear the danger
Peebles then started to get back into the game and Tait again broke free and raced in on goal only to see his well hit shot drift just wide of the right hand post. Peebles then had a couple of free kicks from just outside the box which only narrowly missed the target.
Peebles managed to keep hold of their lead to fully deserve the victory against the League 3 leaders.
Full Time: Peebles 2-1 Blackhall Athletic
