Longniddry Villa Blues
Haddington Athletic
U16 SERYFL Divison 3
Longniddry Villa Blues hosted Haddington Athletic in a third tier league tie. Villa were on a high after recently reaching the League Cup final, and with the tie taking place next week, the home side were looking for a morale boost. However, in their way stood table toppers Haddington Athletic, who were currently running away with the league title race.

Haddington began the match on the front foot, however Longniddry countered, with Lewis McCann going close in the home side's first effort on goal.

Midway through the first half the deadlock was broken. A brilliantly whipped in ball from Robbie Menzies was nodded in by Lee Grant. It prove to be the final goalmouth action of the first half.

Half Time: Longniddry Villa Blues 1-0 Haddington Athletic

The second half was slowed down due to lots of fouls committed of both sides and injuries. Haddington went down to ten men after one of their players was dismissed for dissent.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Athletic continued to push for an equaliser. In the closing stages Haddy threw everything they had at Longniddry, but the home defence let nothing past.

The referee's final whistle sounded, giving Villa another excellent victory, ahead of their cup final next weekend. Loanhead Miners Youth FC Colts will be the opposition, as the sides descend on Bonnyrigg, for what is sure to be an excellent contest.
