Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts won the AFYFC Division 1 championship today with a comprehensive 7-0 against East Fife JSC. Goals from Cameron Walls, Greg Hazel, Matthew McGuire, Jordan McBride and Dale Prattis made it a day to remember for the hosts.

The game started fairly evenly with Hillfield slightly having the edge in possession. The breakthrough came on 7 minutes when Matthew McGuire slipped through speedy striker Greg Hazel who fired the ball past East Fife's keeper and in to the net.

The home side continued to dominate and were awarded a penalty 10 minutes later when winger Cameron Walls was bundled down in the box by defender Ryan Brister. Walls took the spotkick himself and made no mistake, blasting the ball high in to the net.

Hillfield looked up for the game but almost conceded a goal on 20 minutes when Lloyd Ferri's free kick was spectacularly saved by Swifts Goalkeeper Robert Wilson. The home side weren't affected by this and extended their lead on 26 minutes as Walls got his second and his teams third. Striker Jordan Rashid crossed from the left and Walls' shot found the net with a deflection on the way. It was all too easy for Hillfield so far with the visitors offering little resistance.

The game slowed down a little after it's frantic first 25 minutes and East Fife were starting to ease in to the game with spells of pressure. However, Swifts made it 4 just before half time as a cross from the left eventually fell to Matthew McGuire who volleyed home smartly. It was very comfortable for  Swifts as they looked on course to claim the league title.

Half Time: Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts Under 17s 4-0 East Fife JSC Under 17s

The second half started with the home side continuing to dominate and almost added a fifth goal on 50 minutes when Greg Hazel was played clean through but blazed his shot over the bar. Midfielder Sam Glancy then saw his free kick just miss the target.

Hillfield's pressure then paid off on the hour mark as they got their fifth goal courtesy of Greg Hazel. A free kick was won just outside the area and Hazel curled home, leaving the 'keeper with no chance. Hillfield were rampant and East Fife were struggling to contain the home side who looked dangerous every time they ventured forward.

Hillfield were awarded another penalty 5 minutes later when Cameron Walls was brought down in the box. Instead of taking the penalty and securing his Hat-Trick, Walls allowed McGuire to take the kick. McGuire stepped up but fired the penalty over the bar. A wasted chance for the home side to place more emphasis on their dominant performance.

Hillfield got their sixth on 72 minutes as substitute Jordan McBride ran through the centre towards goal. His first effort was blocked but made no mistake with the rebound, firing past goalkeeper Calum Hardie. Hillfield almost added a seventh as both Corey McArthur and Greg Hazel hit the woodwork in quick succession.

Hillfield finally got their goal on 86 minutes when Dale Prattis was played through by Hazel and slipped the ball past the onrushing Hardie. East Fife then got a chance when they were awarded a penalty in the final minutes but they couldn't convert as Lloyd Ferri put the kick over the bar.

A fantastic performance from Swifts who will be ecstatic to claim the league title. The victory never looked in doubt and  I'm sure they will relish the opportunity to defend their title next season
