After what must have seemed like an eternity since the semi finals, the big day finally arrived for Banks O'Dee Albion and Rossvale. The Excelsior Stadium, home of Airdrieonians FC, played host to the final. Both sides went into the game in confident mood and a good game of football was expected.

Both of the competing clubs had a fine recent Scottish Cup history. Banks O'Dee had triumphed last season (at U13 level) and Rossvale won this very trophy two years ago, with their 1998 squad beating Hutchison Vale. Rossvale were U16 winners in 2001 as well, whereas Banks O'Dee (under the guise of Albion BC) lifted the trophy in 2004, 2006 and 2012. Banks O'Dee Albion coaches Bruce McGregor and Steven Hill had both reached Scottish Cup finals in the past with separate Albion sides.

It hadn't been an easy path for either side to reach the final. Albion had taken care of Tynecastle and local rivals Lewis United, in two nailbiting ties. Rossvale had saw off last season's winners Crosshouse before striking late to break the hearts of Fauldhouse in the final four.

Both sides struggled to get a foothold on the game in a frantic start to the game, however the deadlock broken with the game just three minutes old. Rossvale worked a short corner and Christopher McLeod found Scott Glover in space, who rifled the ball past Vitali Sahhalevtis in the Albion goal and into the roof of the net.

Rossvale used the wide pitch to their advantage and were able to get time on the ball and move it about with intent. Banks O'Dee Albion are a passing team and Rossvale restricted them to just that, lots of possession but little threat. The Paisley Johnstone & District League outfit enjoyed the upper hard throughout the early stages but produced no further clear cut chances.

Banks O'Dee nearly equalised when good link-up play fed Hamish MacLeod on the edge of the box. However, his effort went wide of Pierce Finnie's post. Shortly afterwards, the referee brought the first half to a close with the men from Bishopbriggs the happier of the sides.

Coaching duo McGregor and Hill must have given Albion a wake up call in the changing room at half time as the Aberdeen outfit came out with far more purpose. The second half started at a high tempo, with both sides clearly adamant to get the next goal.

Albion nearly drew first blood when Mark Reid picked out Greg Pirie. However, with the Vale defence breathing down his neck he failed to get the connection required and his shot went straight at Finnie.

Minutes later Albion were given the opportunity to level from the spot after Pirie was brought down inside the area. Up stepped right back Jason Ritchie who saw his bottom right hand corner bound penalty superbly tipped round the post by Finnie. It was a well taken penalty but the sort of save worthy of the big stage.

A few minutes later and Vale capitalised on their momentum, going 2-0 ahead. A neatly threaded ball found McLeod, who drove the ball into the bottom left hand corner past Vitali in the Albion goal.

Albion didn't cave in and the supporters and coaching staff kept encouraging them to get back into the game. This culminated in a goal being pulled back just before full time when Shaun Cameron whipped in a good delivery which found Calum McKenzie waiting to tuck the ball into an open net.

There wasn't much time left for the Aberdeen side to complete the great escape and seconds later Rossvale were celebrating their Scottish Cup success. Congratulations to Vale on a tremendous and well deserved achievement and commiserations to Banks O'Dee who can look back fondly on their impressive run to the final.
