Broxburn Athletic Colts were victorious in the second County Cup final of the day at the Tony Macaroni Arena as they overcame Bathgate Thistle by three goals to one. The match was closely contested and the crowd were treated to some quality goals.
The start of the first half was a sign of things to come as both teams battled for possession. Neither were able to gain a foothold on the game from the very start.
The first chance of note fell to Broxburn as Ryan Campbell struck the bar with a fierce shot, before a goalmouth scramble was hooked away by the Bathgate defence.
20 minutes in Murray Arnott forced a good save from Derin Smith in the Bathgate goal. A corner was met by Arnott but his header was saved at the near post.
A few minutes later Bathgate were on the attack as Callum Goldie’s effort went wide of the left hand post.
Broxburn then took the lead five minutes later. After a corner was cleared the ball was played back in and it fell to midfielder Kieran Rafferty, who smashed his shot into the bottom corner – fantastic goal.

The second half began with a bang. Rafferty did well on the wing before turning provider and crossing to Liam Beagley who finished with ease.
Broxburn found themselves three up on the 40th minute as Campbell robbed a Bathgate defender of the ball and slipped a pass through to Rafferty. The number 19 slotted his shot excellently through the 'keeper’s legs to score.
Broxburn then took control of the game but chances were few and far between in the last half hour.
With a few minutes left Bathgate pulled a goal back. A corner was played in and Goldie was able to direct his header into the right hand side of the net.
It was too late to stage a comeback, however, and the referee ended the game moments later. It was a closely contested final that featured two very strong sides – congratulations to Broxburn Athletic 14s!
