Dunbar United Colts lifted the Michael Moran League Cup after a 3-2 victory over Bonnyrigg Rose at New Countess Park.
Bonnyrigg got the game underway with the opening five minutes seeing both teams easing into the game. The first chance of the game came Dunbar’s way when Luke Archibald hit a rocket of a shot that was tipped onto the underside of the bar by Bonnyrigg keeper Brian Taylor.
Dunbar then had a good chance to double their lead through Conal Prior who showed good footwork on the edge of the box but he fired his effort wide of the left post. A shot from Ewan Stark was then deflected off Bonnyrigg’s Lewis Gray which was taken well by his keeper.
Good work on the right by Alexander Tait saw him find Jonathan Crutcher on the edge of the box but he was tackled before he could get a shot away.
Dunbar were back on the attack which saw Bonnyrigg’s Greg Young come to their rescue when he produced a great block to divert Ryan Young’s goal bound shot behind for a corner. The resulting corner was then headed clear.
Half an hour gone and Dunbar were in control of the game. A good ball in from the right side by Stark was cleared by Bonnyrigg just before Kyle Binning could make contact. A free kick in by Archibald on the right side 40 yards out was carried behind by the wind and out for a goal kick.
A corner then gave Dunbar another opportunity to put more pressure on the Bonnyrigg goal. Ryan Young whipped the ball in which was met by Prior at the near post who should have least hit the target - instead he put his header wide of the post.
Bonnyrigg then had a chance to test the Dunbar defence when they were awarded a free kick 20 yards out on the right side of the box. A well-disguised free kick had everyone wondering who was going to hit the set piece with both Blair Jones and Max Roarty hovering over the ball. Roarty then played a square ball to Alexander on the edge of the box who had been left unnoticed but he blasted his effort high and wide over the bar.
