Second played third in the SERYFA Division 3 this week. With the end of the season looming, Longniddry Villa visited Currie Star in the race for the title. Currie started the match on 66 points compared to 63 for Longniddry and with just three goals in the game it was a tight fixture at the Saughton enclosure.
The first chance of the game went to Currie Star as Fraser Sayers passed a good ball to Jamie Slawson who had a shot on goal which went wide.
Slawson had another go at goal with a half-volley that Longniddry keeper Calum Cairney caught easily.
Currie continued their attacking dominance with a freekick in shooting territory. Joshua Nicholls ran towards the ball but left it for Sayers to take the set-piece but the ball went over the bar.
Sayers had another shooting opportunity when he took a shot on an angle that Cairney got down to push past the post well.
Currie finally managed to break the deadlock as Nicholls went on a run through a few players before taking a shot that deflected into the goal making the score 1-0 to the home side.
Longniddry finally started to get chances in as Craig Humphries had a shot from long range that went wide.
Jack Allan also tried a shot on goal for the away team but his low shot across goal went wide for a goal kick.
The 20-minute mark had passed and Longniddry were starting to get an equal shot record as Humphries had a go again with a high shot that Andrew Treschman managed to save.
Longniddry had yet another chance through George Wyeth who had a decent shot from outside the box that Treschman saved once again.
Currie star started to take the reigns again as they went further up the pitch until Jay Niven took a soft shot in front of goal that was easily saved by Cairney.
They went up again with Callum Shand who played a good ball across to Slawson who had a decent shot that was caught by the away keeper.
