Bonnyrigg Rose Colts were crowned Tom Welsh Cup winners after a 6-2 victory over Gala Fairydean Rovers. With the score tight at 2-1 at half-time, four Arran Laidlaw goals in the second period were enough to give them victory and perhaps a more flattering scoreline.
The game got off to a flyer, with Bonnyrigg opened the scoring on 10 minutes. Bobby Wilson played in free kick from the left hand side and Jack Solway met the ball with his head four yards out to power the ball beyond Adamo Antonacci in the Gala goal.
Antonacci did well to stop Solway scoring minutes later when he blocked his shot after a good run down the right and the same player was denied another opportunity at goal when Gala’s Juodeikis produced a great covering tackle.
Gala were having a good spell and forced a good save out of Ryan Kay who parried the ball from a Tom Fowler shot. The Gala pressure paid off when they levelled the scoring on 18 minutes through a great individual goal from Keiran Clark. Eighteen yards out on the right the Gala man hit a dipping shot over the head of the Bonnyrigg keeper to find the back of the net.
Gala’s celebrations were cut short two minutes later when Bonnyrigg regained the lead when poor defending allowed Solway to nip in to slot home and claim his and Bonnyrigg's second goal of the game.
The Midlothian team were in control at this stage and came close to extending their lead when Solway nearly claimed his hat-trick when his looping shot came of the top of the cross bar. Antonacci then saved brilliantly to deny Lawrie Wilson a minute later from 10 yards out.
Josh Winnick should have finished the half on a high for Bonnyrigg after a great ball in from Solway found him free at the back post. With the goal at his mercy he failed to connect with the ball and a great chance went a begging.

Gala started the second half brightly and their intense start paid of six minutes into the half when Blair Turner showed great ability in the box when he spun off his marker to pick up the ball. With still a lot to do he produced a composed finish in to the left hand corner of the Bonnyrigg goal to get his team right back into the game.
Bonnyrigg started to claw their way back after Gala had dominated the opening stages of the second half but they had done enough defensively to make sure that Gala did not take the lead after creating couple of good chances.
Gala were still pushing forward and were unlucky not to take the lead. A Blair Turner shot wasn't held by the Bonnyrigg keeper, but thankfully for him it was cleared before Turner could pounce on the loose ball. A minute later, the Bonnyrigg keepergot down low to save brilliantly from a Jacob Donaldson first time shot at the near post after getting on the end of a great ball from Josh McGurk.
Bonnyrigg were infront again on 59 minutes when Solway, who had troubled Gala all day, saw his fine low driven strike come off the inside of the post. Arran Laidlaw was in the right place at the right time to fire home the rebound.
Bonnyrigg then hit Gala with a quick double on the 62nd and 66th minute with Laidlaw slotting home into the left hand corner for his second of the game. Cameron Quinns initial shot was then blocked but when the ball came out, Laidlaw nipped in and fired home to claim his hat-trick.
Both teams created further chances in the remainder of the half with Matthew Murray being denied twice when Kay produced a fine double save.
Into five minutes added on for an injury to the Gala keeper, Laidlaw got the final goal of the game and his fourth of the match. His initial short was blocked well by the Gala keeper, but he fired home the rebound leaving Antonacci no chance.

Arran Laidlaw - Four goals and a great all round performance pretty much sums it up.
The whole team gets this award as the score line does not truly reflect the Gala performance on the day. If they had taken more of their chances in the opening period of the second half, the score line would have been some what different.

Jack Solway's second goal as it was a real body blow for Gala just after they had got themselves back into the game two minutes previously.
Keiran Clark's super strike from 18 yards to get his team back on level terms at 1-1.
