After weeks of bad weather the youth teams of Skye and Lochalsh had been forced to postpone their end of season tournament prior to Christmas. However the stage was now set for the Under 14s teams to follow on from an exciting Under 17 tournament last week, won by Broadford.

As hosts Plockton was up and ready to win their first bit of silverware since they was formed only a year a half ago. Five teams from Skye came over the bridge to mainland to Plockton's artificial pitch. A great day of football was in store. Broadford, Portree and North West Skye made up League 1 and Plockton, Kyelakin and Bernisdale made League 2.

The top two teams of each league would make a quarter final and the winners of this to make the final game.

Through the day the teams played some great matches with Portree and Plockton making it to the final. After a long hard battle and extra time the game ended 1-1 meaning a penalty shoot out would be the fate and joy for one team.

Portree started proceedings with the first goal, which was followed by both teams having pens saved. Plockton missed again and the final penalty went to Portree who won the shoot-out 4-2. Plockton coach Nick Flanagan said: "My team had made me proud the had played with true pride and sportsmanship."

The day was rounded off with Broadford being presented the league trophy and Plockton captain Shumus Lane receiving the award for player of the season.

Vale at the Double with Central Belt scalps

Written by
Deveronvale's youth section is flying the flag for the Highlands as they enjoy success at national level in the SYFA Challenge Cups. Two of their teams remain in the competition but tough draws against West of Scotland outfits meant further progression wasn't going to be easy. Home advantage was on Vale's side and they used it to great effect, to produce two head turning results.

David-Omar Reid reports...

Under 16s: Deveronvale 3-0 Bellshill
First it was the under 16s who were 3-0 winners over Bellshill Austin Morley got the 1st goal of the match 1-0 Vale at half time. Second half and Ryan gordon took a shot bounced off their defender and went into the back of the net for an own goal then it went from bad to worse for Bellshill as their captain number 4 got sent off and that payed off as Angus Rennie put in the 3rd goal to round off a good day for Vale u16s.

Under 14s: Deveronvale 4-1 Paisley Everton
The Vale under 14s rounded off a good weekend for the youth in the scottish cup with a 4-1 win against Paisley Everton and they got off to a magic start as they took the lead through Malcolm Maitland then Paisley equalised but them Jordan Sleigh made it 2-1 to Vale before half time, then into the second half Vale brought on a boy called aaron who has just been signed by Vale under 14s and he helped Vale to the win by scoring two goals .

Victorious U15's

Ellon Meadows 15s travelled to Barcelona to participate in the Trofeo Mediterraneo 2010 during the Easter break.

After finishing top in their group in the round robin section of the tournament they played the German side, FC Neuruhrort in the semi-final.

Ellon won this match 3-0 and went on to play another German side, SG Rodheim, in the final. This proved a tougher task and following a 0-0 draw the game went to penalties.

The penalty decider proved equally tight with Ellon relieved to run out 6-5 winners.

Congratulations to the boys and coaching staff from everybody at the club.

AFC Star Drops In

AFC Star Drops In

Ellon Meadows U9's were thrilled last week when Don's striker Darren Mackie dropped in to visit their training session.

Darren signed autographs and posed for photographs with the players, parents and coaches of the U9's squad before also visiting the U10's and U8's players who were also training that night.

The visit came about after one of the U9 players wrote a letter to Aberdeen F.C. to challenge them to a game!

Ellon Meadows Football Club would like to thank Darren and Aberdeen F.C. for taking the time to make it a special night for our players.
