Middlefield Wasps beat Donside Juvenile by four goals to two in an entertaining second round match in the Colony Park WP at Balmedie’s Beach Park.

It was Donside who had the game’s first chances. First Brodie Ross’ shot was saved by Middlefield’s Matthew Middleton in goal, then Liam Smith’s long range effort from outside the box went over the crossbar.

Middlefield then had two successive chances within a minute of each other as Finlay Runcie’s pass found Luke Scott whose shot from the right of the box was saved by the Deeside goalkeeper Ben Middleton. A minute later the Donside goalkeeper saved again as Liam Allan’s pass found Tyler Carr whose shot could not beat the goalkeeper.

It was Donside who went on took the lead, as Connor Cooper’s effort from outside the box left the goalkeeper with no chance to give the away side a 1-0 lead as half-time approached.

Middlefield nearly equalised before half time as Jack Burnett’s run and shot from the left of the box was saved by Middleton to ensure that Donside went into the interval in the lead.

Minutes later Middlefield went ahead. Rhys Clark’s pass found Luke Scott whose run and turn set himself up for the shot that found the back of the net to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Middlefield looked to capatalise on the momentum as Jordan MacLeod’s shot went wide, then Jack Burnett’s free kick was saved by Middleton in the Donside goal.

Despite going behind, Donside battled back and equalised. Cooper rounded the goalkeeper to slot home to make it 2-2 in a good cup tie that was entertaining and providing goals.

Two minutes later though and Middlefield regained the lead as Connor McAllister’s pass found Clark who set up Scott to blast the ball high into the roof of the net for his second and Middlefield’s third goal of the match.

Donside looked to equalise for a second time in the match as Callum Insch’s shot from inside the box was well saved by Middleton in the Middlefield goal.

Middlefield wrapped up the win with four minutes to go as Clark’s pass found Jordan MacLeod for his second and Middlefield’s fourth goal of the match to secure the Wasps’ place in the third round of the Colony Park WP.

All in all a good game of football with two teams doing their best and six goals showed that this was an entertaining match.
