At the Garioch Sports Centre, Inverurie, there was a top of the league clash between Colony Locos and Formartine United, with both teams still undefeated going into the new year something had to give. With this game being the 1st game back since the festive break, there seemed to be cobwebs in both sides's systems still and with Locos not taking the lead until the 44th minute in a game they were dominating, it meant they had to play a waiting game at times.
It was a great game for the neutral and one game that if it wasn't for two great keepers in between the sticks could have contained more goals and Locos will certainly be delighted with the victory as they are about to have two very important weeks in the lead-up to the Scottish Cup quarter final against Glenburn Miners Welfare.
The game was started in full flow and Colony had the first chance of the game after the hosts produced some great play in the lead up to Daniel Crisp trying his luck from 20 yards which just went inches wide of the left hand post.
In the first quarter of the game, it seemed to be Locos doing all of the attacking and in between the 15th minute and the 30th minute mark they had a whole host of corners and went close with a few of them, first after a great ball was sent in by Kieran Lawrence was met by Phillip Woodgreaves and just went wide. Then a great ball was swung in from the left hand side by Alex Duguid which Grant Dawson met and was unlucky.
When Formartine had chances in the 1st half, they were certainly threatening towards the home goal and the red and white stripes had two great opportunities in the space of 5 minutes, first through Fraser Aiken who had a ferocious drive towards goal saved by Jordan Garrow before Garrow was called upon again to deny Lewis Keith.
It looked like it would be stalemate at Garioch Sports Centre going into half time until Duguid had other ideas who had gathered a through ball before producing a cool finish which gave Ryan Thomson in the Formartine goal no chance and gave the hosts a little bit of a comfort zone.

It would have been interesting to see how the visitors would have reacted to going down to a goal on the stroke of half time where as Colony were hoping this would kick start their way towards a footballing masterclass. Five minutes after the interval, Locos were to double their advantage. Lukas Kennedy made a darting run before passing into the feet of Alex Duguid, from there some really good football was being played, who played in back into Kennedy in the six yard area who found the net from close range.
A quick goal for Formartine would have put them back into the contest and would indeed have made things interesting and had a great chance to reduce the leeway after an effort from Fraser Aiken which was aiming for the bottom left hand corner was tipped away by Garrow.
As the game went into later stages, from a Colony perspective, it was just a case of closing the game out and when the hosts were being lazy, they received a wake up call from their coaches telling them that the three points aren't in the bag yet.
Colony then had a great chance to seal all three points after Mikey Watson played a through ball into Greg Wood whose 10 yard effort towards goal was saved superbly by Thomson in the opposition goal, Formartine were then to get a goal back in unbelievable circumstances.
As the game entered it's final stage, Formartine got a goal back which was beyond everyone's belief, Jack Lendrum tried his luck from the edge of the box towards the top left hand corner which went over the top of Garrow's goal and the referee felt it had gone in instead of going over and awarded the goal.

Alex Duguid took his goal really well and his all round play was really good to watch.
A close one for this award however Ryan Thomson kept Formartine in the game at times with some really good saves.
Magic Moment

Colony's second goal, a real team goal, started by Lukas Kennedy and finished off by the man himself.
Their ability to keep going even when the game seemed over and done with.

Alan Calder, Colony Locos coach said "It was good to be back playing fitba after a few weeks off and you could see it in the players that they looked a bit rusty, hopefully we get another six points in the coming two weeks and that will give us the momentum going into the Scottish Cup tie with Glenburn."
