Westdyke BC
 vs
Colony Park

ADJFA U13's League B
Westhill
06 October 2013

ADJFA Under 13 B League leaders Westdyke Thistle played host to Colony Park on a cloudy but mild autumn morning in Westhill. Westdyke started brightly and took the lead after only 2 minutes when their striker managed to wriggle clear from a despairing tackle from the Colony defence and fired a superb low shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

Colony took a few minutes to get into the game but were level five minutes later. Hamish Youngs cross from the right found Rory Gauld, who chipped it over the Westdyke defender to where Cameron Fraser was unmarked on the penalty spot and he lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper into the net. Colony were by now coming more into the game and went ahead soon after when Daniel Strachan’s long throw was flicked on and Hamish Young finished well at the far post. Colony were having a lot of success down the right wing and Andrew McWatts good work and subsequent cross from that area found Fraser in the middle but his header went just over the bar. Their lead was increased soon after when a good save from the Westdyke keeper rebounded back to McWatt who smashed the ball into the net.

Just before half-time the visitors scored a fourth when a corner broke free to Young at the back post who shot into the far corner for his second goal of the game.

Half Time: Westdyke BC 1-4 Colony Park

Colony started the second half in the same manner they finished the first and went further ahead, a few minutes into the half, with a great move when Gauld broke clear on the right and his cross was laid off by Euan Fraser to Ryan Anderson who placed the ball past the despairing dive of the home keeper into the far corner with an excellent finish.

Westdyke didn’t give up though and started pressuring the Colony goal. They pulled a goal back midway through the second half when a cross from the left wasn’t dealt with by the defence and the Westdyke player was first to react and swept a low shot into the bottom corner. They almost pulled another back soon after when a looping shot from the left hit the top of the crossbar and bounced over.

Westdyke continued to press for more goals but the Colony defence was resolute and Gauld rounded off an excellent performance with a superb long range shot over the home keeper and into the top corner with the last kick of the game. While Colony deserved their win, the game was more even than the scoreline suggests. Both teams deserve great credit as there was some excellent football on show and both were trying to play the game in the right manner.
