The first league game of the season at under 19s started at a cloudy looking Inverurie and it was a really competitive game for the curtain raiser however both sides had to gain a point out of the game in a contest which included Colony having a penalty saved in the 28th minute.
Locos had the 1st opportunity of the game after a great ball was sprung into the box by Kieran Lawrence which was met by Dean Henderson however Hendersons 15 yard drive just went inches wide of the left hand post.
In what was a quiet start to the game which contained very limited chances, Locos got a penalty after 26 minutes after Kieran Lawrence was brought down in the box by Louis Smith, Alex Duguid took the penalty who slammed it down the middle however Stuart Miller was active to the spot-kick to turn it away.
This seemed to kick on Cove a little bit and they had a couple of chances to get the breakthrough, 1st through AJ Baker after a great ball was sent in from Callum Bayfield then a 15 yard drive from Sean Duthie was turned over the bar from Cammy Garden after a free kick came in from Louis Smith. After that Garden did well to hold onto an Aaron Cox effort from 15 yards.
If you exclude the penalty out of the proceedings then the golden chance of the half fell to Colonys Dean Henderson who tried a spectacular 40 yard drive towards goal which crashed off the crossbar with some debate going on as to wether the goal should have been given or not.
Half Time: Colony Locos 0-0 Cove Rangers
Alex Duguid tried to make up for his penalty miss at the start of the 2nd half after he met a decent ball in from the left hand flank by Kieran Lawrence and Duguid had a 10 yard effort towards goal gathered up by Miller in the Cove goal.
Colony piled on the pressure to the Cove backline and they were away to deal with another dangerous ball coming into the box after Lukas Kennedy went on a storming run and his ball from the right hand flank found Grant Dawson whos header just sailed over the bar.
Cove were then to take control of the game after the 65th minute and it saw them have an effort from Callum Porteous saved by Cammy Garden after some great work in the lead up to the effort by Rangers.
Callum Bayfield was then to have an attempt to try and get past the Colony defence and get the opener after he recieved the ball from Callum Shinnie and then broke past a Colony defender before having his effort saved by Garden.
As both teams were in the search for a winner, it got a bit too much for one player in particular, as a long ball didn't reach any of the Cove forwards and was gathered up by Garden in the Locos goal, Cove forward Aaron Cox aimed a kick at Phillip Woodgreaves and Cox could count himself very lucky that he only got a yellow card.

If Dean Henderson's shot had went in it would have been a contender for goal of the season. He stormed up the wings and set up chances..
It was difficult to pick the award for Cove however Callum Bayfield just gets it from the rest of them, Callum had chances himself and set up for others..
Alan Calder, Colony Park coach said "I think later on the game you could say a draw was a fair result, the 1st half was definitely our half, obviously if you don't score a penalty you come away disappointed and it really was two teams who didn't want to lose the game."
"Dean Henderson then had a great chance to give us the lead with his effort smacking off the crossbar and I wish there was goal line technology because it did look in". I don't think there was a lot of clear cut chances in the game and there was a few scrambles and also their keeper done well."
