Weather and pitch condition were sure to play a key part in this match, as the wind howled and the pitch had a definite incline in favour of Aberdeen in the first half.

It took time for the deadlock to be broken as the stand-in Montrose keeper was proving a good shot stopper, although had some trouble holding onto her saves. Aberdeen were unable to capitalise on the spills as much as they might have hoped.

Aberdeen continued the pressure and eventually were rewarded for their efforts by going into the half time break at 4-0 up.

Second half was an entirely different story, Montrose took full advantage of the conditions now in their favour and fought back honorably to 4-3 with about 10 minutes to go.

Aberdeen had a shot which deflected off the crossbar and back into play, then going onto score. Montrose hotly contested that it was out, but the referee saw otherwise for AFC to go 5-3 up.

Montrose pushed on again and found the net again but time was against them and a very relieved Aberdeen team took the victory by a narrow margin to progress to the next round of the Scottish Cup.
