Beaming sunshine descended on Dingwall for this Scottish Shield semi final between Nicolson Institute and Williamwood. The match saw Nicolson go through to the final winning 4-2 and now to face Boroughmuir at Grant Street Park, Clachnacuddin on Wednesday.

Nicolson got off to a great start, racing int ao 2-0 lead thanks to a double strike from Lorna Latimar. On both occasions she pounced onto loose mistakes and kept her composure. With just two minutes on the clock, the islanders with in dreamland.

It was back to reality though, fifteen minutes later. Williamwood pulled a goal back on the eighteen minute mark after Carla Boyle broke free of the Institute defence and then rounded Kirsty Gillies before placing the ball into an empty net.

Every clear chance for both teams seemed to finish in a goal and that's what happened again eight minutes later. Heather Black sent a lovely through ball down the left flank which evaded the Williamwood defence and Latimar got her hat-trick, placing her shot into the roof of the net.

Half Time: Nicolson Institute 3-1 Williamwood HS

After an all action first half, the start of the second half died down a little. However, 10 minutes into the half and the game opened up again. The Stornoway side gave themselves a three goal cushion after Hannah McLean's shot was saved only for Beth MacLeod to chip it over the visiting keeper.

One of the positives for the East Renfrewshire outfit to take out of this game was the brilliant performance that Carla Boyle put on show. She showcased that as she evaded the Nicolson defence before rattling her shot into the top right hand corner.

Boyce's strike ensured a nervous ending to the game for Nicolson whilst Williamwood were desperate to bring the tie to penalties. However, the Islanders held on and reached their second national final in as many years, building on last year's triumph at Under 15 level.

Nicolson Institute will play their cup final over the Kessock Bridge at Highland League outfit Clachnacuddin.  The opposition are Edinburgh's Boroughmuir High School and the match takes place on Wednesday 24th April with a 12:30pm start.
